SUMMARY:
Our client in the defence industry is seeking a Cost Accountant to join their team in Midrand, Gauteng.

Purpose of this Role:

• The Cost Accountant is responsible for ensuring the delivery of valid, accurate and complete accounting records with respect to all projects and contracts undertaken by the organisation. 
• Completing project cycle from the contracting phase until the completion of the project and incorporates all aspects of financial and administration for these projects. 
• Oversee the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures, systems, tools and other mechanisms to ensure best practice in the achievement of optimal project accounting. This will require the constant evaluation of the effectiveness of the current controls and the need to optimise the systems that monitor these.

• BCom/CIMA / Relevant Degree with related experience
• 10 years’ experience in the manufacturing industry is essential.
• MS Excel / ERP System

• Cost Accounting and Control 
• Preparation of quotes for new contracts together with the Programmes and Commercial team. 
• Review contract costings together with the Commercial and Programmes team
• Monitoring the setup of projects on ERP system for accurate reporting 
• Maintain project-related records, including contracts and change orders and all supporting documentation for billing requirements, tax and other legislative reporting
• Authorize access to project accounts.
• Authorize the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts 
• Review and approve purchase requisitions related to a project within the approved delegation of authority and business policy
• Review and approve time sheets for work related to a project withing the approved business process framework 
• Review account totals related to project assets and expenses 
• Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management 
• Prepare accurate cashflow statements on projects and report timeously 
• Confer with receivables staff regarding unpaid contract billings 
• Oversee the effective stock management process as it relates to finance inputs to ensure accurate reporting. 
• Ensure the inventory management process meets the financial standard required for internal and external audit.
• Report on project profitability and net cash position to management 
• Report to management on any opportunities for additional billings 
• Report to management regarding the remaining funding available for project
