DevOps Engineer

POSITION INFO:

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with AWS experience managing and deploying infrastructure and code in a modern cloud architecture environment to support all platforms. The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing availability, performance, cost effectiveness, operational readiness and security of the solution, while delivering and managing a backlog of minor and larger feature enhancements as required. There will also be opportunity to contribute to design and delivery on other workloads such as in the data analytics space.

This position reports to the IT Manager

The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for and have the following duties:

• Building and scaling infrastructure, version control systems and CI/CD processes on our platforms by applying and enforcing Infrastructure as Code.
• Being security first when building scalable infrastructure.
• Enabling and provisioning an infrastructure that scales seamlessly.
• Ensuring compliance with various security and legal/compliance audits
• Implement and own the CI.
• Manage CD tooling. Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting.
• Build and maintain operational tools for deployment, monitoring, and analysis of AWS infrastructure and systems.
• Work collaboratively with software engineering to define infrastructure and deployment requirements.
• Provision, configure and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure defined as code.
• Ensure configuration and compliance with configuration management tools.
• Troubleshoot problems across a wide array of services and functional areas.
• Perform infrastructure cost analysis and optimization.
• Cost savings and optimisation - Trend analysis
• Respond to tickets and alerts sent within the company
• Record and assess non-critical application errors
• Reviews of all available error logs and reports
• Database backup script to create daily database snapshots and upload to Amazon S3
• Monitor operational resources (AWS EC2 instances, SSL certificates, database, DSN configuration, SMTP services etc..) to avoid potential problems, address disk/ram usage warnings, and facilitate sustained DEVOPS health
• Ensure GitLab backup processes are in place, documented and regularly tested
• Ensure monthly reporting to all stakeholders

Skills Required:

• Prior experience in a software engineering role
• Experience with setting up, deploying, scaling, and managing containerized environments using Kubernetes in production
• Experience in managing large infrastructure projects using Terraform
• Experienced with setting up, deploying, and managing various AWS services

Beneficial skills to have:

• AWS Kinesis
• AWS Redshift
• Django (Phyton) and PostgreSQL experience
• Latent desire and/or curiosity in related domains like software development, front-end engineering, security, or project management.

Experience:

• 5-6 years DevOps experience
• Must have reasonable Terraform experience
• 1–2-year Java Experience (beneficial but not required)
• Experience with setting up, deploying, scaling, and managing containerized environments using Kubernetes in production
• Experience in managing large infrastructure projects using Terraform
• Experience with setting up, deploying, and managing various AWS services
