Position Overview
An established civil engineering and construction company is seeking an experienced Earthworks and Roadworks General Foreman / Production Manager to oversee the successful execution of large-scale civil infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all site production activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards and contract specifications.
Previous experience on major civil engineering projects, particularly SANRAL road construction projects, will be highly advantageous.
POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Plan, coordinate, and manage daily earthworks and roadworks construction activities. Supervise site personnel, subcontractors, plant operators, and construction teams. Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining high standards of workmanship. Manage bulk earthworks, layer works, road construction, drainage, and associated civil infrastructure. Coordinate construction schedules and allocate labour, plant, and materials efficiently. Monitor project progress and implement corrective measures where required. Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and engineering drawings. Liaise with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Surveyors, and Clients to ensure smooth project delivery. Monitor plant utilisation and productivity to maximise operational efficiency. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Conduct daily toolbox talks and site safety inspections. Maintain accurate site records, production reports, progress updates, and daily diaries. Identify and resolve construction challenges to minimise project delays. Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure contractual obligations are met. Assist with project planning, forecasting, and resource management. Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and quality assurance procedures. Drive continuous improvement in productivity, safety, and operational performance. Minimum Requirements Minimum Grade 12 (Matric). Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field will be advantageous. Extensive experience in earthworks and roadworks construction. Proven experience managing large civil infrastructure projects. Previous SANRAL project experience will be a significant advantage. Strong knowledge of road construction methods, bulk earthworks, layer works, drainage, and pavement construction. Excellent understanding of construction sequencing and production planning. Strong leadership and people management skills. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and project specifications. Sound understanding of quality control and construction standards. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation. Valid driver's licence. Willingness to travel and work on project sites throughout KwaZulu-Natal when required.
