POSITION INFO:

Description

The System Support Technician - Infrastructure & Networks must take accountability for the day to day support of the core infrastructure systems, data centres and data networks. The role requires one to take responsibility for their own work and the responsibilities of the Infrastructure & Networks team. The role is responsible for providing support for any and all items that the falls within the Infrastructure & Networks area of responsibility, identifying problems and collaborating with others to propose solutions in an effort to solve them. The role requires an individual to develop and apply the relevant skills and knowledge to operate competently as a team member and develop skills within the team. The role requires an individual to advise, share experiences and offer guidance for junior staff members in the Infrastructure & Networks team and ensure best practices and standards are upheld through strong business operational skills. The role requires an individual to raise the profile of their team or project through effective communication and commitment whilst supporting ISD initiatives. The role requires an individual to assist with risk management and compliance

Requirements

Budgets and Forecasting

• Provide input to assist ISD Manager - Infrastructure & Connectivity to manage operating costs and capital expenditure within area of responsibility.
• Drive cost saving and value through managing costs within area of responsibility.
• Remain cost conscious throughout all projects and day to day team expenses

External contractors and consultants

• Manage tasks and work supporting any framework of any contracts agreed to with external and internal service providers, where applicable to ISD within area of responsibility.
• Adhere to company and ISD and company policies, in all dealings with any contracted vendor.
• Monitor and highlight any vendor inconsistencies, where applicable within area of responsibility, to the relevant Senior ISD Management.

Vendor Contracts and Pricing

• Adhere to signed contractual agreements

Networks & Infrastructure

• Support IT Infrastructure Manager - Infrastructure & Networks to understand key business drivers and focus areas within the responsibility of Infrastructure & Networks Team.
• Support the design, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization of the networks, data centres and other IT infrastructure, including WAN and LAN.
• Partner with other ISD team members to provide and effective and optimum network and infrastructure to National, Regional, Cash & Carry Stores, Buying and Distribution Groups and Retail Brands.
• Analyse through investigation, piloting, testing, implementation, utilization and optimization of network and infrastructure to support ISD to give business a competitive edge

Data Centres

• Support IT Infrastructure Manager - Infrastructure & Networks to ensure data center uptime, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization are done in a manner to ensure maximum value to the business units supported.
• Partner with other ISD team members to effectively pilot and implement innovative business solutions and technology to give business a competitive edge.
• Analyse to provide effective and optimum business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ISD that delivers effective solutions to business units.

Infrastructure Architecture

• Contributor to the Infrastructure Architecture Design and roadmap.
• Partner with ISD Infrastructure & Connectivity team to ensure that Architecture and design is optimized in terms of sustainability, scalability, available bandwidth, monitoring of Infrastructure and Networks is optimal to support ISD and Business initiatives.

System Support

• Manage and maintain systems with a view to ensure trading at all times.
• Raise and escalate relevant concerns as a priority, to ISD senior Management.

• Provide day to day support for standard business applications and functions (Data Centre & related Infrastructure, Networks, Internet Proxy, Hardware Connectivity to the Network, E-Mail Access, Shared Drive Access, Drive Mapping, Data Point Testing, Network Fly-lead testing and replacement.) Manage and maintain network connectivity, in partnership with the ISD Store Support team to ensure the store systems can trade effectively.
• Maintain and manage the call centre processes to ensure that all business support SLA''s are met.

1^st Line Support and 2^nd Line Support

• Hardware Support (LAN, WAN, Wireless Technology, SAN, Data Centre & related Infrastructure, Data Centre Power Reticulation, UPS and Generators, Host Servers, Hardware Connectivity to the Network, Data Point Testing, Network Fly-lead testing and replacement)
