Engineering Manager

SUMMARY:
A leading engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee design, development, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Comminution division. This role is critical to driving technical excellence, ensuring product quality, and leading a high-performing engineering team.

POSITION INFO:
Qualifications & Experience:

• BEng or BSc Mechanical Engineering (or similar technical qualification).
• 8–10 years’ engineering experience in mechanical or structural design.
• 3–5 years in a senior design or lead engineering role.
• Proven track record in equipment design, manufacturing, and field/service environments.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing multi-disciplinary teams, interfacing with clients, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Mining industry experience preferred, especially with crushing, processing, or materials handling equipment.

• Strong technical background with sound engineering principles.
• Proficient in CAD software and experienced in 3D modelling and drafting.
• FEA and structural design experience advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis abilities.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Commercial awareness and cost management capability.
• Innovative, solutions-driven mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
• Willingness to travel locally and internationally.

• Lead design and development of crushing equipment and systems.
• Ensure robust, manufacturable designs aligned with operational and client requirements.
• Oversee 3D modelling, detailed drawings, BOMs, and FEA processes.
• Ensure compliance with mining and safety standards.

• Manage, mentor, and develop engineering and drafting teams.
• Oversee multiple projects from concept to production.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and DFMEAs.

• Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, field service, sales, and product management teams.
• Provide technical support for aftermarket and service teams.
• Commission new equipment to meet functional specifications.

• Maintain engineering standards, procedures, and guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with ISO, ASME, CE, SANS, and other relevant standards.
• Manage design documentation and configuration control systems.

• Resolve design-for-manufacturing issues.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions on quality issues.
• Integrate energy efficiency and environmental considerations into designs.

• Manage departmental budgets and design costs.
• Drive value engineering and cost-reduction initiatives.
