Environmental Health and Safety Officer

SUMMARY:
My Client, based in Wadeville, a large electrical accessory manufacturer is seeking a EHS Officer that has experience working in a manufacturing environment that makes use of injection moulding, press and paint work, assembly toolroom stores and assembly processes. Position requires traveling to Lesotho.

POSITION INFO:

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• A qualification in Health and Safety Environment is required.
• Accredited SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, HIRA, Incident investigation is required.
• Ideally qualified as a facilitator as incumbent will compile and conduct training related to SHERQ.
• Advanced knowledge of legislative and accredited safety management systems pertaining to safety (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001).
• Advanced knowledge of SHE fundamentals as well as excellent knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of relevant corporate governance requirements and South African Legal Requirements.
• Ability to communicate at all Levels of the Organisation and support the Organisation in driving safety campaigns as well as Training.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Must have a strong Occupational safety background.
• Must have experience in dealing with occupational and environmental issues
• Language(s) Requirements: English
• Would need full driving licence.

DUTIES: 

• Manage and improve the risk management process to ensure effective mitigation of risks through participation and providing guidance for Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), Management of Change (MOC), Incident and Accidents and HAZOPS.
• Coordinate and improve the health, safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe and environmentally sound operations including conducting safety training and compiling contractor safety files as per customer requirements and involvement in emergency drills.
• Ensure compliance to corporate requirements, policies and procedures pertaining to ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and Responsible Care and other subscribed requirements.
• Manage/conducting internal and external audits aligned to Corporate and Legal requirements.
• Compile and conduct training related to SHERQ.
• Participate in global SHERQ initiatives.
• Management of the BBS and near miss process and development of training material.
