JOB SUMMARY:

An established manufacturer of chemicals is seeking the above to develop, execute and monitor the overall Sustainability Strategy for the Group by overseeing the planning, execution and monitoring of key projects to achieve the Group’s respective Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals with emphasis on Nett Zero and other Climate Action imperatives.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Minimum requirements for the role:

Must have a relevant financial or commercial Bachelor’s degree
A CIMA/CFA/CA(SA) or related is desired
10 – 15 years professional experience within Sustainability, including Climate Action experience. (CSR experience will be an advantage)
8 years team leadership experience within manufacturing (chemical or mining) environment is essential
Professional ESG/EHS registration and certifications
Knowledge of Management Systems, or related International Standards is important
Solid experience in ESG reporting and disclosures with strong understanding of the role of ESG data will be required
Must have knowledge and experience in global ESG standards and frameworks, such as UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Climate and Water Disclosures (CDP / WDP)
Experience in designing or redesigning an ESG program will be an added advantage

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Assuming accountability for overall ESG strategic plan creation and implementation across the organization.
Developing, executing and monitoring the effectiveness of the Group’s “Nett Zero” and other Climate Action strategy.
Defining the organisational ESG goals, milestones and metrics across the organization.
Overseeing and managing the effectiveness of the organisations reporting processes and the quality of the disclosures in the reports to the relevant Statutory Boards (ie JSE, IFRS, TCFD, ISSB, EFRAG, US Securities and Exchange Commission).
Overseeing and providing expert advice on the effective management of material sustainability risks and opportunities to enhance the ability to attract capital and favourable financial conditions.
Accountable for prompting innovation and enhancing market differentiation and competitiveness by creating a deeper understanding of climate changes and other factors influencing Environmental conditions
Accountable for the ESG governance systems and processes across the organisation
Developing annual and long-term objectives in relation to the prioritised UN Sustainable Development Goals
Developing and implementing firm-wide plan for collecting, storing, validating and distributing ESG data and content for reporting and responding to requests from key stakeholders.
Keeping abreast of global ESG trends and tools, metrics and KPIs, and sharing updates and implications with broader ESG team and greater organization.
Designing social impact program design, oversight and implementation at group level leveraging internal and external stakeholders.
Preparing periodic (monthly, quarterly and annual) ESG/Sustainability reports on progress towards the UN SDGs and per the SASB, CDP, GRI reporting methodology
Liaising with social impact and green initiative partners for program implementation and reporting.
Overseeing and managing the implementation and continuance of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
Developing, analysing and evaluating the impact, resource requirements and cost and benefit of new CSR programs.
Evaluating CSR initiatives against industry standards, analysing results and developing action plans to ensure the company has a best in class CSR program.
