JOB DESCRIPTION INFORMATION: Job Title: Eskom SHERQ Officer Employment Type: 1 Year contract (Extendable) Work Model: Onsite (Based in and around Mmpumalanga) JOB CONTEXT: We're looking for an experienced and driven SHERQ Officer to play a key role in the successful delivery of Eskom and\/or NTCSA transmission line and substation projects . In this role, you'll champion our integrated Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) Management System , ensuring full compliance with Eskom specifications, statutory legislation, environmental requirements, and ISO management systems. Working alongside Project Managers, Engineers, Construction Teams, Supervisors, Subcontractors, and Client Representatives, you'll help foster a culture of continuous improvement while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards from start to finish. Please note that this role is based in and around Mpumalanga. Duties and Responsibilities: Safety: Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Regulations, Eskom Safety Standards, and project-specific SHE requirements. Implement and maintain project Safety Files in accordance with Eskom requirements. Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly site inspections and safety audits. Monitor compliance with approved Method Statements, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), and Risk Assessments. Facilitate Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRAs), Baseline Risk Assessments, and Task Risk Assessments. Verify that all permits to work are in place before high-risk activities commence. Monitor compliance with fall protection plans, lifting operations, excavations, confined spaces, work at heights, electrical safety, and plant operations. Investigate incidents, near misses, injuries, and dangerous occurrences, implementing corrective and preventative actions. Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and ongoing SHERQ awareness training. Monitor contractor and subcontractor SHERQ performance. Health: Monitor occupational health requirements across project sites. Ensure compliance with medical surveillance requirements. Verify contractor fitness-to-work documentation. Monitor hygiene, welfare facilities, and employee wellbeing. Ensure emergency preparedness procedures and first aid arrangements are maintained. Environment: Implement and monitor Environmental Management Plans (EMPs). Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permit conditions, and Eskom environmental specifications. Monitor erosion control, stormwater management, waste management, pollution prevention, dust suppression, and rehabilitation activities. Investigate environmental incidents and implement corrective actions. Conduct routine environmental inspections and audits. Ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous substances. Risk: Maintain the project's Risk Register. Facilitate regular project risk assessments. Identify operational, environmental, and quality risks. Monitor mitigation measures and verify implementation. Assist project management in reducing project risks and improving compliance. Quality: Ensure construction activities comply with Eskom specifications, approved drawings, quality plans, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs). Monitor quality inspections throughout civil, electrical, structural, and overhead line construction activities. Verify quality records, inspection reports, test certificates, and turnover documentation. Raise and monitor Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). Ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out. Support project commissioning and handover documentation. Participate in internal and external quality audits. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain complete SHERQ files and legal compliance documentation. Compile daily, weekly, and monthly SHERQ reports. Prepare audit reports and inspection findings. Maintain statutory registers and project compliance records. Ensure document control complies with company and client requirements. Stakeholder Management: Liaise with Eskom\/NTCSA representatives. Participate in client SHERQ meetings. Support internal and external audits. Promote continuous improvement initiatives. Mentor supervisors and site personnel on SHERQ best practices. Qualifications & Experience: National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Quality Management, Risk Management, or a related field. SACPCMP registration (CHSO) or eligibility to register (advantageous). Valid driver's licence. Minimum 5 years' SHERQ experience in construction, engineering, utilities, or infrastructure projects. Valid ORHVS (Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems) certification is essential (non-negotiable). Essential: Proven experience on Eskom and\/or NTCSA transmission line, substation, and overhead powerline projects. Experience implementing and maintaining integrated SHERQ Management Systems. Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 Management Systems. Strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Regulations, NEMA, and Eskom standards and specifications. Experience conducting site inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance monitoring. Experience managing Safety Files, environmental compliance, quality documentation, and SHERQ reporting. Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and report-writing skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
