The Role: Estimator
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for fire protection and construction-related projects. This role is essential to successful tendering and project planning, with a specific focus on utilising CCS Candy estimating software. Working closely with commercial and operational teams, the Estimator will help ensure competitive and profitable submissions by producing Bills of Quantities, evaluating subcontractor pricing, and contributing to risk and value analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Minimum 5–10 years experience in cost estimating within the built environment
- Review and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and specifications
- Prepare cost estimates for labour, materials, plant, and equipment across fire protection and construction scopes
- Develop and manage Bills of Quantities and estimating schedules using CCS Candy
- Assess and integrate subcontractor quotations into overall estimates
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement to refine cost assumptions
- Contribute to risk analysis, value engineering, and cost optimisation
- Prepare tender documentation and assist with formal submissions
- Maintain historical cost data and update pricing databases
About You
- 5–10 years relevant estimating experience in construction or related industries
- Proven experience using CCS Candy software – essential
- Matric / Grade 12 – essential
- Diploma or Degree (BTech/NDip) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or similar – preferred
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Effective communication and strong organisational abilities
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
