Our client in the telecommunications sector requires an Executive Head of Department on a contract basis.
POSITION INFO:
Role purpose:
- To develop and implement overall strategy for the establishment and growth of the Vodacom Video & Music business, for Vodacom SA and Vodacom Group, offering differentiated SVOD/TVOD and music streaming services to mass and high value segments.
- Drive incremental revenue for the Vodacom South Africa business, and across the region, by launching compelling Video & Music proposition to the market
- Increase subscriber growth through the provision of Video & Music services
- Ensure Strategic, commercial (partnerships and vendor management) and operational efficiencies across the portfolios
In Addition this role the key candidate will be responsible for a number of key portfolio’s within the Digital Lifestyle services team namely:
Lifestyle and Content: The core responsibility is to build and maintain digital consumer propositions that are relevant and provide value to customers. These include Vlive, MyMuze, Mum and Baby and eschool amongst others already available. In addition, there needs to be a focus on customer needs and research in order to both build new products and to enhance features of existing products. These products need to be launched with a solid go-to-market strategy including digital marketing, service delivery, product management, partner management and working with our delivery team for platform integration & delivery. These products and services include but not limited to My Muze, Mum & Baby, eSchool etc.
Mobile Advertising: To build and manage a mobile advertising ecosystem that delivers incremental revenue, Big Data, content for Vodacom rewards and to seed m-Commerce transactions
Video on Demand: To own and define the On Demand Strategy and drive its adoption in the organisation. Including owning the Video On Demand roadmap and ensure its execution in close collaboration with the technical, segment & marketing teams. It must work closely with the various Vodacom departments and teams to ensure Video on Demand penetration is driven with training, promotional and marketing activity.
Eco-systems and Partnerships: To lead and manage commercial relationships with 3rd parties’ system, application developers and brands to serve the CBU customer base with value added services. In addition, to work on new platforms and capability like the API gateway that will allow functionality across all business units. This will allow scaling of services through effective deployment of API’s that are fit for purpose, and the ability to provide incremental revenue or benefit to the business
Sports and Gaming: To drive and deliver on the Gaming portfolio strategy, ensuring its commercial viability and strategic fit, and drive its adoption in the organisation. This also includes ownership of the portfolio, product and enhancement roadmap and the execution thereof in close collaboration with the technical, segment & marketing teams.
International Expansion: To successfully work with all Vodacom Opco’s to drive relevant solutions and programs from all the above areas into all markets where required. This needs to be done in a manner with effective integration and maximum focus on relevancy as well as ensuring that the local markets are comfortable with the proposition, and then assist in driving up engagement and adoption based on best practice
The successful incumbent must ensure ownership of each of the portfolios, or specific products in the portfolio, content/product and enhancement roadmap and the execution thereof in close collaboration with the content partners, technical, segment & marketing teams.
In addition, work closely with the various Vodacom departments and teams to ensure the required customer penetration is driven through the use of training, promotional and marketing activity. Also required to work across and build cross functional content propositions across various segments
There is also a need to ensure effective customer adoption and utilization and drive-up usage to promote engagement on the necessary platforms and increase reasons to consume.

Must have technical / professional qualifications:
- Matric – Essential
- Degree/ Diploma – Essential
- Proven track record in managing/building relationships
- At least 10 years’ experience in sales, account management
- A minimum of (2) two year’s management experience – essential
- Telecommunications experience
- Media and Content experience
- Experience with Video industry OTT Players (Netflix, Amazon, Showmax, YouTube) - Digital
