FINANCE DIRECTOR

SUMMARY:
JOB PROFILE / LOCATION: A Permanent / Executive Level Position in the Financial Services Industry (Short-Term Insurance Sector) based in Johannesburg (Gauteng) REMUNERATION PARAMATERS: R1.2m – R1.5m PA Total Cost to Company including Benefits: Standard Corporate Benefits & Incentives

POSITION INFO:

JOB SUMMARY: My Client, a wholly owned subsidiary of an international Insurer is in search of a suitably qualified and experienced individual to assume the above-mentioned role with their organisation. The successful incumbent will report directly to the Managing Director. Key Performance Areas will include: -

·            Monthly financial reporting in accordance with company policies and IFRS reporting standards

·            Manage and co-ordinate the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate management reports and commentary, which includes collaboration with the & Analytics team

·            Analyse financial performance and contribute to planning of quarterly to Group company

·            Full responsibility for reporting into the Board on financial matters, including developing plan for financial year for Company Board approval

·            Oversee the development, design and implementation of processes to ensure efficient and accurate processing of financial related information

·            Adoption and monitoring of financial reporting standards to ensure compliance to group financial reporting requirements are adhered to

·            Assist and provide guidance to local internal and external audit matters for the group businesses

·            Manage the annual business planning and budgeting processes

·            Assist with the on-boarding, cash collections, including monthly reporting, and liaising with functional departments both at organization and Group level

·            Ad-hoc financial reporting

·            Chair the Company’s Investment Committee

·            Build a trusted relationship based on sound business management and governance with business partners (including on-going assessment and monitoring)

·            Involved in regular engagement with regulatory, tax and compliance authorities, as well as industry associations

·            Manage interface with external and internal audit

·            Assessment of new business opportunities (from assessing fit to capital investment decisions)

·            Lead the IFRS17 project accounting work stream and work with Actuarial & Analytics team lead to deliver the implementation of IFRS 17 in the businesses

·            Lead the finance roll out of IFRS17 to the company businesses

·            Manage and coordinate projects to standardize reporting using technology

·            Embrace technology and innovation in building a finance environment for the future with integration to all aspects of the company

Specific Areas of responsibilities will include: -

Financial Management

·            Advise on effective internal controls and systems to ensure the achievement of objectives relating to operations, reporting and compliance

·            Ongoing review of existing processes to identify and deliver on improvement plans

·            Manage SAICA training programme

Staff Management

·            Continuous Employee Engagement via assist with the training and mentoring of finance team members

·            Provide leadership and direction to each member of the finance team as well as to the team as a whole with a focus on accuracy, efficiency and compliance with SLA’s and internal process documents

·            Effectively delegate tasks and assist the team in prioritizing tasks to meet unit objectives; review and update job descriptions at least once per annum

·            Set realistic objectives in the annual MbO document and review

·            Actively manage performance of each team member and address any areas of concern immediately and escalate to senior management and/or HR as may be required on a case by case basis

Strategic & Developmental

·            Regular interactions and financial support with the Group CFO’s / finance person

·            Manage full Delegated Authority Business (including regular interface with business partners on finance and management issues)

·            Delegated Authority Business Operational Platform: (Design, implement and continuous improvement of platform)

·            Collaborate with the group management for advice on the financial implications of business activities

·            Deliver / maintain a sustainable expense ratio to contribute to profitability and build a culture driven by value

·            Educational requirements

Criteria / Requirements

·            CA (SA) with at least 8 years post articles experience within either financial services or the Insurance Industry

·            Strong financial reporting and accounting skills

·            Insightful at analytical review, results analysis and results commentary

·            Experience in implementation of financial systems an advantage

·            Must have worked for an Insurance company, ideally in short term insurance

·            The ability to pay attention to detail but, also able to see the bigger picture

·            Lead and build a central team culture of excellence

·            Excellent communication (written, verbal & presentation), staff management, time management, relationship building and organisational skills

·            Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage complexity and change and have excellent business insight
