POSITION INFO:

Based Durban. 

Join small to medium sized engineering/manufacturing Company that has had a footprint in its sector for many decades and forms part of a large, industrial listed JSE Group.  It has a strong reputation for delivering its niche products throughout South Africa, Africa and abroad.  Approximately 40% of its manufacturing is “jobbing” and the manufacturing of specific “once off” products for its customers.  The process is from the creation of an engineering drawing right through to final machining making this Company a “one stop shop”.  This key position will be the 2 IC to the Managing Director to whom this position will report and will advise him in all areas of financial, costing, management information, pricing and key areas in managing the financial arm of the business.  As the Financial Department is small, the successful encumbent will be fully ‘hands-on’ and ‘operational’ in both the plant and financial areas of the Company.

Key performance areas, inter alia, include:         

• Manage, motivate and mentor staff in this small Financial Department consisting of Senior Creditors, Debtors, Buyer and Assistant as well as Admin.  The candidate will be interacting with all the other areas of the business and creating meaningful relationships with key Management being Production Manager, Engineering Manager, Sales Manager, Technical & Business Development Manager and HR Manager.
• Be directly involved in upgrading the current computer package which is Pastel Evolution into a meaningful ERP System covering all the applicable Modules, especially Costing in the plant (at the moment there is a specialised but very old System to support Pastel)
• As the Buyer reports directly to the Financial Manager, become fully involved in the procurement and as he has been recently appointed, create a meaningful job description and KPI’s for him and his Assistant.
• With the implementation of a Costing Module for Pastel, it is critical that the MD understands costs of production, the break down of Bill of Materials, the accuracy of Cost of Sales, Variance Analysis and reasons for material differences in the expenses in running of the plant. In addition, Stock Management and control is also key in this type of business.  Assist the MD with accurate pricing of product and ensure the correct margins are maintained.
• Management reporting for monthly management board meetings and ensuring timeous completion for the Corporate Head Office in Jhb.  This naturally will include Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Reports, Debotos Age Analysis, etc.
• Control year-end Audit, payment of salaries using VIP (only 30 salaried staff as the HR Department pays the 90 wage employees), process the statutory payments like VAT, EMP 201 etc., ensure adequate insurance cover.

Requirements:

• B Comm (Major in Management Accounting or similar), B Tech – Cost & Management Accounting or completed stage 3 of CiMA
• Candidate must have come from an engineering/manufacturing background and has been involved in all aspects of financial accounting, cost accounting and management accounting.  In addition, as there is a substantial amount of job costing, the candidate should have strong experience in contract accounting
• If the candidate has been involved in implementing a computer system, it would be an ‘added advantage’ for this position 
• Able to lead from the front, being assertive, driven and goal orientated are key descriptive words for the type of person that will be successful in this role.
