POSITION INFO:
An innovative and rapidly growing South African financial services group is looking for a Financial Accountant to join its high-performing finance team. This is not a role where you will simply process transactions and tick boxes. You'll gain exposure to a technically challenging accounting environment, work across multiple areas of the finance function and have the opportunity to develop your technical and analytical capability. Key Responsibilities Perform and review cash and bank reconciliations , ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records. Manage accounts receivable , including reconciliations, allocations, outstanding balances and follow-up of discrepancies. Prepare and process general ledger journals , ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and appropriately supported. Perform detailed trial balance reviews and investigate unusual or incorrect balances. Conduct variance analysis and provide meaningful commentary on financial movements and trends. Analyse financial information to identify discrepancies, trends and opportunities for improved financial control. Assist with VAT-related transactions and reconciliations , ensuring accurate accounting treatment and compliance. Support month-end and year-end close processes. Prepare financial reports and schedules for management review. Assist with audit requirements and provide supporting documentation as required. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and efficiencies. Work closely with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting queries and ensure financial information is accurate and timely. Job Experience and Skills Required Education: BCom Accounting \/ Finance or equivalent qualification - non-negotiable. Experience: 3-4 years' relevant Financial Accounting experience. Strong exposure to reconciliations, journals, trial balances and financial analysis. Experience with accounts receivable and VAT transactions. Financial services experience would be highly advantageous. Experience within a lending, credit, investment, insurance or other financial services environment would be beneficial. Candidates who have worked in technically demanding or fast-paced finance environments will be well suited to the role. Skills: Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Experience working on an ERP\/accounting system. Strong analytical and numerical ability. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to investigate discrepancies and understand the story behind the numbers. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team. Non-negotiables: BCom qualification. 3-4 years' relevant financial accounting experience.
