Financial Accountant

SUMMARY:
To support the Head: Financial Accounting to achieve financial (long and short term) strategy and vision of the division by a preparing financial statements while adhering to financial controls within the company, and analysis of financial information to assist in the strategic decisions of the bank

POSITION INFO:

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Set the strategic direction for the company in terms of Financial Management. These include financial modelling, scenario planning and forecasting of the balance sheet and cash flow statement.
• Manage the monitoring of the financial position of the company by analysing the current and future accounting standards and accounting policies to determine financial effectiveness and impact, best practice, and relevance to the business of the company.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, half yearly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
• Maintain the integrity of the trial balance by ensuring accurate journal entries are processed, performing monthly reconciliations and preparing a timeous monthly accounting file for review.
• Review all policies and procedures, including the effectiveness and strength of financial control quarterly.
• Provide proactive and regular forecasting and scenario planning for corporate planning for balance sheet and cash flow statement.
• Research, formulate, provide input and implement appropriate accounting policies and procedures in accordance with IFRS
• Accuracy, quality, reliability and timeousness of quarterly and annual financial reporting.
• Ability to re-engineer processes within financial accounting with detailed procedural manuals as well as policies and documentation of business processes which should be reviewed and updated quarterly.
• Provide adequate support and timely financial information to internal and external auditors during the financial year.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Qualified CA (SA) with strong technical expertise in the field of financial accounting and reporting.
• A post graduate diploma will be advantageous (IT, Taxation, Accounting).
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience of the above job function at a financial statement preparation level.
• Strong  understanding  of and  a  strong  commitment  to  good  corporate governance  and  specifically international  reporting  standards  including  IFRS,  Basel,  GAAP  and  other  regulatory  requirements including the PFMA.
• Strong SAP and Case Ware working knowledge.  Business Intelligence tools experience a distinct advantage.
• Advance Microsoft Excel working experience.
• Experience in a financial accounting role in banking products and/or financial services essential.
• Experience in SARS e-filing (value-added tax and PAYE)
