LIGHT MANUFACTURING & TRADING GROUP

POSITION INFO:

Based East Rand. Join well established Group, ± R750 million turnover, which is the largest light manufacturer & distributor of their niche product range in South Africa.  After a number of acquisitions which have been absorbed into the existing structure, there are now four Subsidiaries which are financially managed by three Financial Managers.  They report directly to their respective Line Managers and indirectly to the Group Financial Manager who will guide and mentor them as well as assist in problem solving whenever the need arises.  The culture of the Group is a classic SME environment which is entrepreneurial and fast moving, as directed by the two main Directors who are both commercially driven CA’s (the candidate will report to the Group MD).  However, a percentage of the shares are held by a Joint Venture Company which is corporatized and in this regard, is very demanding of financial data and information which will be provided by the Group Financial Manager.  The group business strategy is largely controlled by the Shareholders and the Group Financial Manager will only play a supportive role in this area.  Each of the Financial Managers have a small financial department who supports them.  The main trading Company is by far the largest contributor to turnover and profits, noting that it is a high volume product and each of the seven Branches based throughout SA have warehouses where the product is distributed to their customer base.

Key performance areas, inter alia, include:         

• As outlined above, provide mentorship and especially technical guidance to the Subsidiary Financial Managers as and when necessary.
• Prepare the monthly consolidations using an existing Excel Template – the respective Financial Managers send all the relevant financial data for their businesses which needs to be reviewed and naturally where corrections or queries arise, will be resolved with these FM’s.  The consolidated pack will then need to be presented to the Shareholders on a monthly basis and which is especially scrutinised and analysed by the Private Equity Representatives.  In this regard the successful candidate needs to be able to understand and communicate clearly in a confident yet respectful manner during the monthly Board Meeting.
• Engage with SARS especially in respect of SARS Audits which includes all audit requests as well as filings (VAT, EMP, Provisional, ITR, IT14SD etc.)
• Be the contact point for all external Service Providers including Banks, SARS Representatives, etc. as well as External Parties including Workers Compensation, Stats SA, Covid 19 – TERS etc.  Negotiate annual facilities and other requirements that the Group needs.
• Manage the Group Audit and deal with the External Auditors on all Group requirements and in respect of all Entities.
• Manage Annual Insurance Renewals of the Group and assess/follow up on risk items and action whatever is required.
• There are various time lines that have to be adhered to and also improved especially after month end.
• Manage the Group’s Property Company as well the Group’s Holding Company.
• Engage with the BEE Consultants noting that substantial headway has been made already at Group level to drive certification.

Requirements:

• CA (SA) with 5 to 10 years post Articled experience which ideally will be both in a reasonably large Corporate and a smaller entrepreneurial SME plus management experience.
• Experienced in managing, motivating and guiding Financial Managers in a group role especially in regard to timeous delivery of financial information and reports.  Advise on strengthening controls and compliance in the various Subsidiaries. 
• Strong Excel and noting that there are various computer packages used in the Subsidiaries which the respective Financial Managers are responsible for in ensuring accurate information is being produced.
• An outgoing and personable candidate is being sought so as to create excellent interpersonal relationships.  In addition, the candidate must be self-driven, confident, assertive yet diplomatic and be able to meet the expectations of the various Shareholders due to the matrix reporting structure.
