POSITION INFO:
Join an established pan-African rail and logistics group with operations across multiple countries, entities and currencies. The business is experiencing continued growth, creating an opportunity for a newly qualified CA(SA) to gain broad commercial exposure within a lean, high-impact finance team. As the General Accountant, you'll work closely with senior finance leadership across management reporting, group finance, cash flow, budgeting, tax, IFRS, consolidations and financial analysis. You'll also be involved in process improvements, automation and strategic business projects, giving you exposure well beyond traditional accounting. The real draw? You won't be boxed into a reporting role. You'll have direct access to experienced finance leaders, ongoing mentorship and the opportunity to understand how finance supports the wider operation. The role is designed to develop a high-potential CA(SA) towards a Finance Manager position, making this an ideal next step for someone looking to build a long-term career in commercial finance. The position is initially based in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), with a planned relocation to Rosebank, Johannesburg as the business evolves. Key Responsibilities Prepare monthly management accounts, reporting packs and financial analysis. Manage general ledger reconciliations and support accurate month-end reporting. Assist with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis. Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations and working capital. Support VAT, tax, audit and other statutory requirements. Assist with group reporting, consolidations and IFRS-related reporting. Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, controls and reporting efficiency. Contribute to strategic projects, integrations and wider business initiatives. Job Experience and Skills Required Newly qualified CA(SA) with completed SAICA articles. Strong foundation in accounting, financial reporting and IFRS. Good Excel skills with strong analytical and problem-solving ability. Previous exposure to management accounts and financial reporting. Experience in a multi-entity, group or operational environment will be advantageous. ERP experience such as Sage or a similar accounting system is beneficial. Exposure to manufacturing, logistics, transport or other asset-intensive industries would be advantageous. Commercially minded with the ability to understand the business behind the numbers. Comfortable using technology and AI tools to improve reporting and analysis. Ambitious, driven and interested in progressing into a finance leadership position. Apply now!
