General Maintenance Technician

SUMMARY:
Our client is looking for a hands-on and practical General Maintenance Technician to assist with the maintenance, repair and upkeep of equipment and machinery within a busy food manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out preventative and breakdown maintenance, identifying and resolving mechanical and basic electrical faults, and ensuring that production equipment remains safe, reliable and operational. Experience in a food manufacturing, FMCG, production or similar environment would be advantageous.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on production and packaging equipment. Identify, diagnose and repair mechanical and basic electrical faults. Assist with maintaining and repairing equipment such as pumps, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, valves, sensors, pipework and processing equipment. Assist with maintenance and fault finding on production and packaging lines. Carry out regular inspections and identify potential equipment problems before breakdowns occur. Assist with equipment setup, changeovers and production start-ups. Assist with the installation, adjustment and commissioning of new equipment. Perform basic electrical fault finding on motors, sensors, control circuits and equipment where competent to do so. Work with mechanical systems including pumps, bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, pneumatics and power transmission components. Assist with general repairs, maintenance and minor fabrication work where required. Participate in root cause analysis and assist in identifying solutions to recurring equipment problems. Keep maintenance areas, equipment and workshops clean, organised and safe. Complete maintenance records, job cards and relevant documentation accurately. Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly to minimise production downtime. Work closely with production staff to identify maintenance requirements and resolve operational issues. Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with company safety procedures and food manufacturing requirements. Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to GMP and food safety standards. Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability and reducing downtime. Skills & Competencies Strong practical and hands-on maintenance ability. Good mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills. Basic electrical fault-finding ability would be advantageous. Experience working with production or manufacturing equipment. Good understanding of preventative maintenance. Ability to work with tools and maintenance equipment confidently. Ability to identify problems and find practical solutions. Good attention to detail. Good communication skills. Able to work independently as well as part of a team. Able to prioritise urgent maintenance requirements in a fast-paced production environment. Flexible and willing to assist wherever required. Willingness to learn and develop additional maintenance skills. Minimum Requirement: Valid driver's licence - essential. 3 - 5 years hands-on maintenance experience in a food manufacturing, FMCG, production, packaging or similar environment would be advantageous. Formal maintenance\/electrical\/mechanical qualification would be beneficial but is not essential.
