Generative AI Data Scientist – Johannesburg – R500k up to R700k per annum

POSITION INFO:
A global financial services organisation seeks a passionate and innovative Generative AI Data Scientist to join their team. In this role, you will lead the development, fine-tuning, and deployment of state-of-the-art generative models (e.g., LLMs, diffusion models, GANs) to solve real-world problems across our products and services. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive AI innovation, build scalable solutions, and shape the future of our AI capabilities. Responsibilities: Design, train, and deploy Generative AI models (e.g., GPT, LLaMA, Stable Diffusion, DALL·E, etc.) Fine-tune foundation models using domain-specific data and RLHF techniques Develop scalable data pipelines to support model training and evaluation Analyze model performance and optimize for accuracy, efficiency, and ethical AI principles Work with product managers, designers, and engineers to integrate AI models into applications Stay current on the latest research in Gen AI and propose innovative solutions Create technical documentation and present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Qualifications & Experience: MSc\/ Bachelors in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field 4+ years' experience in AI\/ML, with a focus on generative models Strong experience with Python and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face) Deep understanding of NLP, computer vision, and\/or audio generation Hands-on experience with LLMs, diffusion models, transformers, or GANs Solid grasp of data engineering, MLOps, and cloud platforms (AWS\/GCP\/Azure) Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently Reference Number for this position is NG60435 which is a contract Hybrid position offering a contract rate of R500k to R700k per annum negotiable on experience and ability.
