A specialist engineering support business operating within high-risk construction environments is seeking to appoint a Geotechnical \/ Soils Inspector to support the delivery of earthworks and foundation construction across major infrastructure and building projects. The organisation provides site-based engineering and inspection services at the interface between ground engineering and construction execution, ensuring that soil conditions, compaction, and foundation preparation meet strict quality and safety standards. This role is focused on verifying geotechnical compliance and ensuring that groundworks are executed in accordance with approved designs and international standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting earthworks, foundation preparation, and soil compaction activities, ensuring compliance with geotechnical requirements and project specifications. The role requires strong technical understanding of soil behaviour, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced site environments. Key Responsibilities Earthworks & Soil Inspection Inspect excavation, earthworks, and foundation preparation activities Verify soil compaction, density, and material suitability on site Ensure compliance with geotechnical reports and approved specifications Monitor fill placement and subgrade preparation activities Quality Assurance & Compliance Identify non-conformances and ground-related risks Recommend and monitor corrective actions Ensure adherence to international standards (ASTM, AASHTO, BS or equivalent) Support QA\/QC processes across earthworks and foundations Technical Review & Reporting Review geotechnical reports, inspection test plans (ITPs), and method statements Maintain accurate inspection records and reports Communicate findings to engineers, contractors, and project teams Site Coordination & Support Liaise with geotechnical engineers, contractors, and site teams Provide technical input on soil conditions and construction suitability Support resolution of ground-related construction issues Safety & Risk Management Ensure compliance with excavation and site safety standards Identify risks associated with unstable ground or poor compaction Promote safe earthworks and foundation construction practices Minimum Requirements Civil Engineering Diploma or Degree ICC Soils Special Inspector certification 3-5 years' experience in geotechnical, earthworks, or foundation inspection Strong understanding of soil mechanics and earthworks construction Knowledge of international standards (ASTM, AASHTO, BS or equivalent) Ability to interpret geotechnical reports and engineering drawings Strong analytical, problem-solving, and site inspection skills Proven experience in construction site environments
