JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our Client, a well-established Leading South African Manufacturer is seeking to URGENTLY appoint a suitably qualified and experienced GM to manage, lead and support one of their subsidiaries. This role reports into the Board of Directors, based in the Pinetown Operations, Durban, KZN


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

  • Ideally a seasoned individual who is close to retirement to mentor and groom an internal ear-marked candidate to take over this role in the next 2-3 years.
  • To lead and support the Business unit in the Group and dazzle the customer, support the factories to achieve world class manufacturing, achieve quality and cost targets whilst motivating and empowering staff through results.
  • Plan and Execute efforts to achieve the Vision through the Company Values.
  • This is a new role in the Group (Pinetown Plant) which has emerged out of a new structure.
  • The candidate will be largely responsible for the supply chain and operations functions and will manage the business unit with a CFO and report into the board of directors.
  • This role is “OPEN to ALL”.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead a diverse group of people and drive sustainable growth
  • Implement Drive World Class Manufacturing Strategies
  • Enable the Company to be an employer of choice
  • Overseeing daily business operations.
  • Developing and implementing growth strategies.
  • Training managers and staff.
  • Creating and managing budgets.
  • Improving revenue and managing the Finances of the Company.
  • Managing Talent, including hiring employees.
  • Evaluating performance and productivity.
  • Analysing accounting and financial data.
  • Researching and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Maintain the Group’s Licence to Operate via Compliance with Legal and other obligations
  • Establish and drive production goals and develop organizational structures.
  • Direct the development of plans for the organisation to achieve production targets in line with Company strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures, providing resources and training.
  • Manage OPEX budgets and achieve CAPEX requirements.
  • Influence and formulate policies.
  • Maintain consistently high customer service levels.
  • Reporting and strategic alignment – Ensure effective, accurate and efficient reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives on productivity, costs and reducing waste.
  • Analyse and resolve production historical issues in order to minimize potential risk.
  • Effectively empower and develop staff through goal setting and performance management in order to enable them to contribute effectively to business decisions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A relevant completed tertiary qualification (BEng or Bcom). Production Management qualification and/or MBA is advantageous.
  • Proven track record in Leading People.
  • Minimum 20+ years in a business management or operations management role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing and business processes requirements and dynamics.
  • Proven track record of implementation world class manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and practices.

  • Ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Microsoft Office proficient.
  • Building key stakeholder relationships.
  • Enquiry initiating and chairing skills (IR).
  • BOM integrity and validity auditing.
  • Stock integrity management.
  • Variance (Job and Inventory) investigations.
  • Best practices and key learning implementation.
  • Customer complaint investigations.
  • Understanding Process Flows.
  • Understanding of Income Statements, Costing Models, Operating Profits.
  • Optimising business performance.
