Group Head Office Accountant

SUMMARY:
Our client is seeking a qualified and commercially minded Head Office Accountant to join their group finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified CA(SA) looking to build on their technical accounting experience within a dynamic head office environment. The role offers exposure to group reporting, management accounts, budgeting, cash flow management, and executive-level reporting, while partnering closely with senior leadership across the business.
 
The Head Office Accountant will support the group finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong cash flow visibility, effective payment controls, and the timely preparation of management information. The successful candidate will play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, board reporting, and providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Manage cashbooks, invoice processing, payment processing, banking administration, and bank reconciliations Maintain cashbook payment schedules and related financial reports and spreadsheets Oversee administrative records related to company assets and ensure all registrations, renewals, and supporting documentation are kept up to date Monitor and maintain records of fines, penalties, and related payments Provide support and cover for finance team members when required Monitor bank balances, cash flow requirements, and investment transfers Reconcile credit card, debit card, and petty cash accounts, ensuring all supporting documentation is complete and accurate Prepare and process accounting journals as required Manage foreign supplier payments and maintain supporting documentation Process and reconcile foreign receipts Prepare banking-related journals and reconciliations Assist with various finance and administrative duties as required Prepare and distribute sales and management reports Resolve supplier account queries and maintain positive supplier relationships Prepare monthly accrual journals and maintain supporting schedules Conduct detailed analyses of operational costs and expenditure Assist with stock counts and maintain all stock take documentation Prepare VAT audit files and supporting schedules Prepare audit files and supporting documentation for assigned expenditure categories Maintain organised filing systems, robust internal controls, and accurate financial records in line with legislative and company requirements Process invoicing and credit notes Verify, file, and maintain import and export documentation where applicable Perform ad hoc bookkeeping, accounting, and administrative duties as required Minimum Requirements Qualified CA(SA) Approximately 2 years' post-articles experience Strong technical accounting knowledge with exposure to monthly reporting, management accounts, and group reporting Commercially aware with a proactive and solutions-driven mindset Detail-oriented and deadline-driven, with the ability to manage multiple priorities Confident preparing executive reports, board packs, and financial presentations Strong analytical, reporting, reconciliation, and advanced Excel skills Comfortable operating in a fast-paced head office or group finance environment Qualifications BCom Degree, Honours Skills and Experience Strong accounting, audit, reporting, and financial analysis experience Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong financial modelling capability Experience preparing management reports, executive presentations, and board packs Sound understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cash management, financial controls, and corporate governance Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Professional, adaptable, and confident in engaging with both finance and operational teams Only South African Residents or individuals with a relevant South African work permit will be considered.
