JOB SUMMARY:
Our client is seeking a suitably qualified individual to be based at the Group Head Office. Championing the Group's new Innovation Strategy, taking accountability for the full lifecycle of innovation opportunities, from ideation to business case development to delivering significant successful value, creating outcomes available for commercialisation. This includes providing strategic direction and guidance to leverage and scale opportunities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Commerce or related.
  • Post Graduate qualification in Business Management an advantage.
  • 10 plus years’ senior management experience in business development, innovation, marketing or similar.
  • At least 4 years of project management and commercialisation experience.
  • Proven experience in leading change by supporting and motivating others in finding improved ways of working, and managing change projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with business management and growth in a complex business environment.
  • Strong knowledge of emerging and disruptive business models, and thorough understanding of the value chain and market trends.
Key Performance Areas:
Reporting to the Group Business Transformation Director:
  • Develop the Innovation and Digitalisation Framework
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the group in the context of innovation and digitalisation
  • Drive stimulation, innovation and entrepreneurship in support of strategy execution across the group
  • Embed group-wide innovation framework, governance, guardrails, mindset, and ways of working (incl. Agile)
  • Scan the innovation universe through external exploration and foresights to identify and/or validate key themes for innovation and digitalisation to deliver against strategic priorities
  • Develop strong relationships and external network, bring in external perspectives to challenge and initiate ideas in line with the strategic intent
  • Lead ideation from trends and opportunities in the business environment to deliver against the identified priorities, and progress development of concepts
  • Mobilise cross functional teams to conduct initial feasibility of concepts, and convert to business cases
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to resource and drive implementation and commercialisation of agreed projects
  • Support the progression of innovation opportunities through the pipeline
  • Manage the innovation and digitalisation portfolio to validate execution of initiatives against objectives and strategic priorities
  • Oversee the implementation/commercialisation of the initiatives and tangible delivery of the business value outcome
  • Undertake post implementation reviews of the initiatives, to drive improved portfolio management and execution
  • Lead the delivery of innovation initiatives
  • Manage the nominated project leads and external partner networks in a structured and efficient prioritisation, development and deployment process to deliver innovation initiatives
  • Maintain the governance frameworks for digitalisation and innovation
  • Develop a connected organisation – provide exposure to the innovation portfolio, external trends, perspectives and digitalisation
  • Engage the broader organisation in innovation development and communication of success
  • Develop relationships with key external partners to collaborate on good practice methods for innovation ideation, concept development and innovation testing

  • Reputation as a strategic thinker in a business environment, able to think ahead to identify or create and then maximise opportunities
  • Strong business acumen
  • Innovative and creative, with the ability to formulate new ideas or to adapt to existing ideas in a new or unexpected way to solve problems
  • Proven track record in guiding and supporting digitalisation, largely through bringing the ‘outside in’ in terms of exposure and technologies
  • Display a continuous learning mindset and promote learning and development in others
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate persuasively and confidently to influence and negotiate positive outcomes and inspire stakeholders to implement the proposed actions/solutions
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining collaborative business relationships and networks with both internal and external stakeholders to resolve both short-term issues and advance longer-term projects
  • Sound track record of research
  • Experience in managing a complex stakeholder landscape, with experience in working with teams in Africa in a range of Africa markets
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team player, and holds self and department to a high level of service delivery
