A leading national organisation is seeking an experienced GROUP TRANSPORT MANAGER to take ownership of its fleet, logistics, and transport operations across South Africa, based in Johannesburg.

This senior role will oversee a diverse vehicle fleet, implement cost-effective strategies, ensure compliance, and drive operational excellence within a fast-paced and technically demanding environment.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with strategic insight, capable of managing complex transport operations at a national scale.
This is a high-impact, national leadership role offering the chance to shape and optimise transport operations for a major player in the capital equipment/services sector.
The successful candidate will join a well-established organisation with ambitious growth plans and play a critical role in ensuring service excellence.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and manage the national transport division, overseeing multiple depots and branches.

Develop and implement transport strategy, policies, and procedures aligned with business objectives.

Manage a large and mixed fleet (light, heavy, and specialised vehicles).

Ensure compliance with all transport, road safety, and industry regulations.

Drive cost efficiency through effective route planning, fuel management, and asset utilisation.

Oversee maintenance schedules and ensure downtime is minimised.

Negotiate and manage supplier contracts (leasing, maintenance, insurance, fuel providers, etc.).
Prepare and manage annual transport budgets.
Lead, mentor, and develop a transport team (drivers, controllers, and admin support).
Implement tracking and telematics systems to monitor fleet performance.
Collaborate closely with operations, projects, and commercial teams to ensure service delivery.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Minimum of 10+ years’ transport / logistics management experience, of which at least 5 years in a senior fleet/transport leadership role.
Material handling and Capital Equipment transport experience (required)
Strong background managing mixed fleets across multiple regions.
In-depth knowledge of transport legislation, compliance, and safety regulations.
Proven ability to deliver cost savings and operational improvements.
Excellent leadership, negotiation, and supplier management skills.
Relevant tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transport Management or similar.
Strong IT and systems knowledge (fleet management / telematics).
Willingness to travel nationally when required.
