HEAD OF RISK | SANDTON

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Head of Risk is responsible for leading the management of the first line risk function for the Consulting platform within the South African based operations. This includes supporting the various divisional executives in the execution of applicable risk management strategies, plans and programmes. The following key outputs form part of this role:

Take responsibility for identifying, evaluating and mitigating events that could threaten the profitability and productivity of the division.
Spreadhead efforts related to enterprise risk management and ensure the implementation of appropriate risk management plans and practices throughout the division.
Engage with key stakeholders and role players to confirm applicable risk registers as well as the development business unit risk profiles.
Facilitate the quantification of suitable risk limits and assist business unit management to develop and adopt their respective risk appetite statements.
Support management with the development of internal controls as well as plans and processes to measure and mitigate risks across the division.
Formulate and implement appropriate assurance strategies (testing, reviewing and monitoring) in line with agreed priorities and aligned to the Group combined assurance plans.
Create and disseminate suitable risk measurements, assessments and reports as required for management purposes.
Contribute to the development and evaluation of business plans and strategies as well as appropriate policies and processes related to their implementation.

Candidate Requirements

BSc / B Com degree in Risk Management.
Alternatively, similar qualifications in Finance, Economics, Internal Auditing, Accounting or Law.
Honours or postgraduate qualification advantageous.
Membership of Financial Risk Manager (FRM) or Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA) advantageous.
Minimum of 8 - 10 years’ work experience in the risk management, audit, governance and assurance environment.
Experience in the risk management or internal audit environments for financial services required.
Must have exposure to the investments or asset management sector.
Solid experience in enterprise risk management with a firm understanding of the three lines of defence model.
Strong experience in the identification, quantification, evaluation and assessment of risks as well as facilitation of risk management workshops.
Solid experience and knowledge of the design and implementation of internal controls.
Experience in the implementation and monitoring of best practice risk management frameworks.
Experience leading small to medium sized teams and collaborating across multiple functions.
Knowledge and awareness of the external and competitor environments.
