Head Engineer Civil & Structural - Madagascar

Ambatovy Joint Venture operation in Madagascar, is seeking a Head Engineer Civil & Structural to oversee integrity of all CIVIL and structural engineering decisions to ensure safety, quality, cost effectiveness and compliance with relevant international standards and codes. Collaborate with area Principal Engineer (PE) and Chief Engineer (CE) to allocate resources and deliver integrated engineering solutions to meet the needs of the business.

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum Bachelor of Engineering (Civils / Structural)
• Registered Chartered engineer or Professional Engineer

ESSENTIAL:

• 15+ years’ experience in:
• Lead / Senior Civil Engineering Roles in modern downstream plants.
• Lead / Structural Engineer (steel & concrete), designing & specifying
• Civil structural integrity or life span analysis.

• 10+ years’ experience in:
• Mining, Petrochemical / Chemical process plant, O&G, Infrastructure, Engineering / Design (Projects work, plant engineering)
• EPCM brownfields projects - steel and concrete essential
• 5+ years’ experience in:
• Previous Expatriate experience
• Leadership skills - mentoring and leading a department supervision
• Coaching, training & development of civil structural design engineering teams essential
• Technical experience with the following:
• Mine tailings / Geotechnical works
• Structural calculation ability
• Structural – bridges / pipe racks, steel & sheet, tanks, conveyors, storage bins, UG structures
• Concrete - infrastructure, extensions, repairs, mine tailings, trenches, culvert
• Evaluation of seismic / cyclone / degradation stresses
• Mechanical stress calculation
• Turnaround and Project management
• Computer literacy with STAADPro / Prokon for design software or equivalent.
• Must be actively involved - hands on
• Ability to communicate effectively in English - French would be an advantage

Responsibilities

• Workload and resource planning for the department to ensure the timely delivery of work to projects and running plant
• Demonstrate responsible management of resources (staff versus contractor) in cost-effective manner. Ensure team always has right balance of competence / experience / availability
• Tracking of work progress and deliverables to comply with schedule cost and quality requirements
• Establish / write procedures necessary for CIVIL and structural engineering according to international standards.
• Onsite Technical excellence / authority within area of expertise.
• People leadership - Establish a mentoring program, manage planning for department, supervision, ensure the training and development of National Engineers and Staff and their oversight by senior staff (level 1 /level 2 approval)
• HSE in design process (big focus)
• Hands on conducting field QA inspections to ensure compliance to design
• 80% Technical work / 20% management of the team with Supervising and technically guiding the team.
• Attending key (project and engineering) meetings.
• Civil and Structural Design work which will include designing and / or checking / approving design work / calculations.
