SUMMARY:
A conglomerate in the insurance sector is currently in the market for a Head Legal and Governance. The ideal candidate must be an admitted attorney with extensive senior legal experience within life insurance, non-life insurance, investments, pension funds, commercial and corporate law, litigation, contract management, intellectual property, developing and implementing group governance frameworks.

POSITION INFO:

A conglomerate in the insurance sector is currently in the market for a Head Legal and Governance. The ideal candidate must be an admitted attorney with extensive senior legal experience within life insurance, non-life insurance, investments, pension funds, commercial and corporate law, litigation, contract management, intellectual property, developing and implementing group governance frameworks.

Qualifications and Experience:

• LLB
• Admitted attorney of the high court
• CFP preferable (post graduate diploma in financial planning)
• 10 years relevant post articles experience
• 5 years’ experience in Company secretariat or corporate governance
• 5 years team management experience
• Extensive knowledge of insurance legislation
• Extensive knowledge of corporate governance, commercial law
• CISA, FAIS, Competition Law ,IP ,Employment law PoPIA
• Contract drafting experience
• Litigation management

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop a legal risk management framework and relevant policies and implement in the corporate, shared services and business units
• Manage and control the activities of the Group legal function
• Provide strategic legal direction
• Support all legal resources of the business
• Manage and coordinate external legal services
• Prepare a legal and litigation report
• Manage intellectual property portfolio
