Head of Application Platforms and DevOps

A permanent vacancy available for a Head: Application Platform and DevOps, to start as soon as possible.

The role is Cape Town based, and the person will be reporting into the Chief Operating Officer

Objectives:

The Head of Application Platforms and DevOps is a leadership role accountable for the successful delivery of software for the group cluster.

Managing a team of developers, DevOps engineers and quality assurance specialists, the individual will work closely with the IT leadership team and sub-cluster IT leadership in order to deliver software development, quality assurance and DevOps services that support the business strategy and ambition through the provision of agile Application Development & Support,

Application Management and Application Platform Services, and Quality Assurance including Test Automation.

The individual will be accountable for the creation and delivery of the strategic, software development, quality assurance and DevOps vision and leadership and all aspects of the delivery of platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership, management, and technical vision to the entire
• software development competency
• Drive software development and technology strategy across multiple platforms, including web, mobile, and integration in multiple programming languages
• Lead software development teams to develop, document and maintain cutting-edge application platforms.
• Provide leadership, management, and technical vision to entire software development team.
• Provide strategic direction regarding the streamlining of development, quality assurance and deployment across multiple teams.
• Implement mechanisms to monitor, manage and provide progress on all software development and quality assurance activities
• Accountable for the on time and to quality delivery of software development projects.
• Responsible for the maintenance and development of internal and external platforms.
• Manage development of internal engineering productivity tools and be responsible for development and operation of continuous integration and deployment pipeline.
• Provide strategic direction with regards to the development and maintenance of the CI/CD pipelines.
• Devise and implement a modern approach to software engineering and infrastructure that enable continuous delivery and by releasing features on demand.
• Work close with the Software Development, DevOps Engineering and Quality Assurance leads to facilitate all necessary infrastructure, tooling, mentoring, and mindset to enable high velocity in a continuous delivery environment using best practices and DevSecOps
• methodologies.
• Contribute to the IT Agile transformation journey:
• Provide guidance in the formation and setup of cross-functional agile delivery teams
• Provide guidance in the formation and setup of an agile delivery framework in collaboration with the wider IT functions.
• Track team productivity and product delivery by applying lean estimation techniques, emphasizing the delivery of working software.
• Contribute to the establishment of effective agile governance approaches, such as assessments, metrics, dashboards and reporting.
• Assist in establishing and collecting metrics that help the IT team continuously improve, including how well teams are doing at delivering value and quality.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelors or Master’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Analytics, Business Administration, or Engineering.
• 10+ years business experience managing technical teams, Financial services experience would be advantageous.
