SUMMARY:
Our fantastic client in the FinTech sector has an Exciting opportunity for a Head of Engineering, Lagos- Nigeria

POSITION INFO:

Objectives:

• Responsible for building and deploying all new products and services for a FinTech company.
• Leading cross-functional teams to collectively achieve their goals by ensuring a single set of standards and methodologies.

Responsibilities:

• Set technical direction as well as own the architecture and the implementation of all software development within the Group.
• Lead and manage, successfully, the software development team to deliver software that meets the needs and requirements of users.
• Adept at configuration of applications and how to add feature toggles and general application configuration.
• Excellent working knowledge of Cloud native technologies with strong demonstrable experience with Google Cloud and AWS.
• Good understanding of software code versioning systems (e.g., GIT), and good engineering practices (including API versioning).
• Knowledgeable about CI/CD and development and DevOPs workflows using modern open-source tools & technologies.
• Oversee effective work systems, where Product Managers and Product Owners are aligned to ensure delivery against agreed priorities.
• Good knowledge of software architecture patterns including techniques for working with event driven or distributed systems, hexagonal or clean architecture and building a scalable / maintainable code base.
• Implement mechanisms to monitor, manage and provide progress on all software development activities.
• Accountable for the on time and to quality delivery of software development projects.
• Empower and mentor team members through technical mentoring, especially junior developers, leading and getting the best out of them.
• Collaborating with the appropriate functions and users to evaluate and identify technology platforms for delivering the Group’s products and internal services. In addition, advising and promoting the best stack for the Group’s current and future development.
• Research the external environment, and where appropriate identify and recommend external partners for the delivery of best-in-class technologies suitable for the Group’s applications or Products’ strategy.
• Maintain and ensure compliance with the corporate identity.
• Manage multiple projects in line with technical and business goals.

Technical Skills:

It is desirable that the Head of Software Development be conversant with the following technologies currently employed by the team:

• Web Development - JavaScript, Node.js and the React framework
• Mobile Development - Flutter, Native iOS and Android
• Backend (Microservices) - Golang, Python, gRPC, GraphQL and REST API, MongoDB, SQL, and NoSQL databases
• Platform - Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD platforms, Google Cloud & AWS
• Design patterns - Microservices, Event Driven Architecture

Preference will be given to candidates who:

• Currently leads a high performing development team
• Comes from a Fintech background
• Manages product or platform that is live to customers (in production)
• Exposure and working with Cloud technologies 
• Knowledge of DevOps and good CI/CD workflows
• Understanding of Golang a bonus
