Head of Production

This is a rare senior Production opportunity to join a high quality South African team, in an FMCG business whose products are distributed globally. This person will be based at their factory in the East Rand, Gauteng. This role is responsible for managing the throughput of the plant in its entirety.

The successful candidate will have experience managing diverse teams with varying capabilities in a fast paced, technical production environment. Responsible for strategically and practically contributing to the overall continuous improvement of plant availability, and productivity, implement and maintain where necessary a best-in-class manufacturing and production operation as well as lead and contribute to projects identification, development and implementation. This is a “hands-on” role, and this person will spend the majority of her/his time in the factory ensuring efficiencies across the entire operation. 

A key aspect to this role is PACKAGING experience on the lines (technical experience of how the filler, capping and shrink-wrap), machines work, knowledge of bulk manufacturing and printing would be preferred. The candidate must have packaging production management experience of 8 years minimum in addition to his/her proven Production skills.  

Key areas:

• Contribute to improvements and expansion projects
• Identify performance improvement opportunities
• Collaborate with departments to roll out required improvement projects
• Collaborate with departments to ensure the staff are dynamically resourced across lines. 
• Lead a team developing excellence in line management and people engagement
• Implement and maintain where necessary a best-in-class manufacturing and production operation

The ideal candidate should have:

• A university degree, preferably MECHANICAL or INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience within the FMCG sector, in a packaging  / production management role
• Proven track record in successful bulk manufacturing within FMCG
• Strong technical PACKAGING lines knowledge (filler, capping and shrink-wrap)
