JOB DESCRIPTION for SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Head of the school administrative team and responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the school in Modimolle, to provide leadership, direction and co-ordination within the school. The main focus is to develop and maintain effective educational programs within the school and to promote the improvement of teaching and learning within the school and to ensure that quality, effective teaching takes place.
Broadly and in general the following responsibilities.

  1. The detailed organisation of the school.
  2. The development of the instructional program
  3. The assignment of duties to and the supervision of members of the staff and
  4. The general operation of the school facility

Specifically, the following duties.
·  Oversee day-to-day school operations
·  Manage school logistics and budgets. Administer the budget, solve budget shortfalls. Coordinate strategic direction in the school system Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, PLG Head Office, Departmental regulations, school regulations and UMALUSI.
·   Supervise teachers and education staff.
·  Setting performance objectives for students and teachers.
·  Implementing and monitoring school policies and safety       protocols.
·  Overview administrative tasks (Updating of staff and learner  records and SASAMS
·  Present data from school performance to Board.
·  Develop and assess teaching methods, monitor student achievement, encourage parent involvement, revise policies and procedure
·  Hire and evaluate staff in consultation with Board.
·  Ensure that school facilities remain safe for students and plan regular maintenance of school grounds and equipment. Research and acquire new materials and resources to improve the experience of both students and teachers. Oversee facilities
·  Developing safety protocols and emergency response procedure.
·  Keep track of learner performance.
· Meet achievement standards
· Uphold educational policies and integrate the common core    Department of Education guidelines into each class and subject curriculum.
· Set learning goals for learners and teachers based on the CAPS directives. Create benchmarks for learners and teachers and track progress towards those goals.
· Monitor and report on teacher’s performance. Develop programs that improve teacher performance by means of in-service programs. Provide guidance and counselling to teachers and other staff in need. Observe the performance of teachers and have suggestions on how teaching processes may be improved, may it be in or out of the classroom.
·   Provide guidance to the school’s network of student leaders.
·   Organise school events and assemblies.  Daily morning meetings with teachers are essential.
·  Ultimately responsible for discipline at school. Arrange for disciplinary hearings, investigations and warnings to learners and staff when needed.
·  Respond immediately to concerns from parents and Board members
·   Handle emergencies and school crises.
Plans, organises and implement an appropriate instructional program in a Preschool/Foundation Phase/Senior Primary/ Senior/F.E. T level that guides and encourages learners to develop and fulfil their academic potential. All work is performed under the supervision of the principal. Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following: In cases where teaching takes place the following should also be adhered to;
o   Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
o   Develops ATP’s (Annual Teaching Plan), lesson plans and tests and assessments that are in accordance with established procedures.
o   Instruct and monitor learners in the use of learning materials and equipment.
o   Identify barriers to learning and implement methods plans and activities to remediate.
o   Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.  Suggest and introduce assistive devices to ensure that teaching is successful.
o   Manage learner behaviour in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school. Maintain accurate and complete records of learner’s progress and development. (IEP- Individual Educational Plan)
