HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER – INDUSTRIAL HVAC PROJECTS (CAPE TOWN)
Initial Contract: 12 December – 3 January Shutdown (Somerset West)
Permanent Role: Confirmed based on performance

My client, a specialist in industrial and commercial HVAC installations operating in power, petrochemical and process environments.

POSITION INFO:
We require a proactive, hands-on Health & Safety Officer who can operate confidently in demanding industrial construction settings. The role suits someone energetic, solutions-driven, and able to act quickly to prevent incidents rather than react to them. This is a site-focused role; the candidate must be comfortable directing safe work practices and ensuring compliance in real time.
The December shutdown project in Somerset West will serve as the onboarding period and practical assessment of capability.
Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct daily site inspections and hazard identification
• Enforce compliance with OHS Act, Construction Regulations and client safety systems
• Review and implement Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Safe Work Procedures
• Manage Working-at-Heights, Hot Work, Confined Space and other permit systems
• Oversee scaffolding erection and ensure correct certification
• Conduct toolbox talks, inductions and safety briefings
• Maintain safety files and statutory documentation
• Investigate incidents and near-misses, implement preventative measures
• Ensure contractor and subcontractor compliance
• Support shutdown execution from 12 Dec – 3 Jan

• SACPCMP Registration – CHSO (minimum)
• HIRA certification
• Legal Liability (OHS Act & Construction Regulations)
• SAMTRAC / NOSA or equivalent safety qualification
• Diploma in Health & Safety (advantageous)
• Incident Investigation training (ICAM or similar)
• First Aid Level 1–3
• Firefighting / Fire Marshal
• Working at Heights + Fall Arrest / Rescue
• Exposure to scaffolding inspection (advantage)
• Valid driver’s licence + own transport
• Minimum 2–4 years’ experience as a Safety Officer in industrial construction, civils, mechanical installation or shutdown environments
• Energetic, fast-paced and highly proactive approach

• Comfortable working in power, petrochemical or process environments
• Strong situational awareness and quick thinking
• Hands-on and confident working on active construction sites
• Young, energetic and accustomed to fast-paced shutdown environments
