SUMMARY:
Our client is looking for a proactive Health and Safety Officer to manage all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements across multiple operational sites.
The role ensures full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related legislation, while working closely with Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure all buildings, machinery, vehicles, and equipment meet statutory safety standards.
This position plays a key role in strengthening HSE systems, staying ahead of regulatory changes, coordinating training and emergency preparedness, and driving a positive, safety-first culture throughout the organisation.
POSITION INFO:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) and all relevant legislation
- Manage and maintain Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) systems across operational sites
- Oversee compliance of machinery, equipment, vehicles, forklifts, racking, buildings, and grounds
- Coordinate preventative maintenance, inspections, and commissioning of new equipment in collaboration with Maintenance and Operations teams
- Manage contractor safety controls, including risk assessments, contractor files, and Section 37(2) agreements
- Maintain and control all HSE documentation, incident records, audits, and statutory reports
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries, and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Coordinate HSE training, inductions, and competency requirements for employees, contractors, and safety representatives
- Plan and manage emergency preparedness, fire drills, and evacuation procedures
- Monitor site security systems and liaise with security service providers
- Participate in internal and external audits and ensure alignment with QMS, GMP, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards
- Promote a proactive safety culture through regular communication, inspections, and engagement
- Act as liaison with regulatory authorities and relevant government bodies
- Ensure housekeeping and general safety standards are maintained across all areas
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:- Grade 12 (Matric) with a Diploma or Degree in Safety Management
- 3–5 years’ experience in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment, with a strong technical or industrial background
- Sound knowledge of the OHS Act, HSE legislation, risk assessments, incident investigations, and audits
- Basic understanding of HACCP principles, with in-depth knowledge of company Prerequisite Programmes (e.g. ISOPE01 and ISOP02) and the HACCP Plan for glass control and BIB (Bag-in-Box) filling (ISOPH02)
- Strong mechanical, project coordination, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Valid driver’s licence and own transport
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure with strong communication skills
