IT Engineer | Western Cape | Permanent A hands-on IT support opportunity for a technically capable professional who enjoys solving problems, supporting users and keeping technology environments running reliably. This role offers a combination of remote-based support and practical onsite exposure during the annual harvest season. The IT Engineer will provide day-to-day desktop, Microsoft 365, network and basic server support across client environments. Most of the year will be remote-based, with a three-month onsite rotation in Piketberg during harvest season when operational support requirements increase. The role will suit someone who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple support tickets and communicating with users at different levels of technical ability. The successful candidate will also participate in standby support when required and should be comfortable with practical onsite tasks such as workstation setup, equipment installation and network cabling. The role forms part of a technology services environment supporting multiple client requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with the IT Manager and senior technical resources, providing dependable first-line and intermediate support while escalating more complex issues appropriately. Experience in a managed service provider environment is essential. What You'll Do Provide remote technical support to users across Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive Install, configure, update and maintain Windows 10\/11 desktops and laptops Monitor client systems and devices using RMM tools Troubleshoot desktop, network and infrastructure issues Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers when required Provide basic support for Wi-Fi, routers, switches, cabling and VPN connectivity Perform basic Windows Server support, including restarts, backup checks, disk-space monitoring and troubleshooting Assist with configuration changes and system adjustments Travel to Piketberg for approximately three months each year during harvest season Provide onsite technical support to users during the Piketberg rotation Install and repair physical IT equipment Set up workstations and run or repair network cabling Log, manage and resolve support tickets through the service desk Maintain accurate records of troubleshooting activities and resolutions Keep clients informed about ticket progress Participate in standby support outside normal working hours when required Manage user accounts, permissions and access requests through Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID Assist with device configuration and deployments Monitor backups and assist with basic recovery tasks Maintain accurate client documentation, system diagrams and password records Follow cybersecurity practices including patching, secure password handling and phishing awareness Protect client and user information and maintain confidentiality What You Bring Matric \/ Grade 12 IT Diploma, certificate or equivalent technical qualification 1–3 years' experience in technical support or a managed services environment Previous MSP experience is essential Experience supporting multiple client environments will be advantageous Working knowledge of Windows 10\/11 and Microsoft 365 Basic networking knowledge covering LAN\/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, TCP\/IP, DHCP and DNS Basic Windows Server knowledge Experience with RMM, monitoring and ticketing systems Understanding of basic cybersecurity practices Fluent spoken and written English and Afrikaans Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport Own smartphone for MFA and standby communication Willingness and ability to work onsite in Piketberg for approximately three months each year during harvest season Willingness to participate in standby support outside normal working hours Good troubleshooting and problem-solving ability Strong communication and customer-service skills Ability to manage multiple tickets and priorities Strong attention to detail when managing users, permissions and technical records Ability to work independently and use initiative Willingness to learn new tools and work across different client environments Comfortable with light physical work onsite, including cabling, carrying equipment and occasional ladder use Ability to successfully complete the required background checks What Success Looks Like User issues are resolved efficiently and professionally Support tickets are accurately logged, tracked and closed Microsoft 365, desktop and basic infrastructure issues are handled effectively More complex technical problems are escalated with the correct information Client environments are monitored consistently and potential issues are identified early User accounts, permissions and device configurations are managed accurately Documentation remains current and useful Piketberg operations receive reliable onsite IT support during harvest season Standby responsibilities are handled reliably when required Users experience consistent, responsive and professional technical support The IT Engineer builds trust with users while maintaining appropriate technical and security standards
