SUMMARY:
Our client, a multi-national bank in SA, has a brand new job opportunity for a Mandarin-speaking General Manager to head up their IT department. Based in Gauteng.

POSITION INFO:

Basic Requirements:

  • Excellent communication ability and good proficiency in English and Mandarin. Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills; highly skilled communicator at all levels; ability to effectively communicate to senior leadership, key customers, vendors, and team members within the organization.
  • Familiar with information security, cyber security, IT outsourcing, software life cycle management
  • Familiar with Network technology and have programming experience
  • Ability to think strategically and innovate. Converts proposed ideas, thoughts, and general ideas and strategies into workable IT solutions
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and team player attitude - attentive to the success of clients and co-workers
  • Detailed-oriented
  • Effective multi-tasker, with the ability to prioritize assignments and projects to meet deadlines
  • Bachelor degree in IT-related subjects
  • At least 10 years relevant work experience in IT and 5 years experience in a management role

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for strategic planning and direction of the information technology (IT) function of the Bank, including network infrastructure, core processing, staffing, telecommunications, productivity applications, and developing internal programs.
  • Management of IT Department. Manage IT staff by recruiting, training, and coaching employees, communicating job expectations, and appraising their performance. 
  • Maintaining and enhancing the Bank’s IT system and environment. Manages, directs, and performs the design, development, installation, and administration of networks and computer applications. Ensures compliance with best practices in deployed software and security.
  • Providing IT support and management to all departments of the Bank; provide bank employees with top quality, consistently available computer service, support training, and maintenance of all computer systems used throughout the bank.
  • Liaising with Head Office in China, manages multiple project efforts simultaneously, reporting status of those projects, and ensuring the projects are complete as expected.
  • Ensure business continuance. Understand Business Continuity Plan (BCP), quality, security, and compliance requirements for IT and analyzes additions and changes to mitigate environmental risk, information risk, responsible for all hardware and software evaluations.
  • Develops, implements and maintains a Disaster Recovery Plan that ensure the company''s systems are protected and that processing requirements are met in the event of an occurrence.
  • Responsible for implementing technology consistent with Bank’s and Business unit’s standards and long-range plans. Ensure adherence to all department and technology standards and procedures, including all documentation requirements. Oversee recommended designs based on business requirements and technology requirements. Manage escalated issues and concerns.
  • Collaborates with Senior Management regarding all IT strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organization outcomes; identifying problems; evaluating trends; and anticipating requirements.
  • Partner closely with department heads to ensure successful execution of key projects defined through annual strategic planning and commissioning.
  • Review and enforce written policies and procedures regarding all computer operations in the IT Department and throughout the bank.
  • Ad hoc duties as assigned by management.
