IT Manager: Technical (Online) Engineering

Gijima Staffing Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a client for an experienced IT Manager: Technical (Online Engineering) to lead a high-performing engineering function responsible for delivering secure, scalable and innovative digital platforms. POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements Relevant IT Degree, Computer Science Degree, Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification. 8-10 years' relevant experience, including leadership of software engineering teams within large-scale digital, e-commerce or technology environments. Proven track record of delivering complex enterprise-scale software solutions and digital platforms. Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams within Agile and product-oriented delivery models. Experience with modern software engineering practices including: Cloud-native development APIs Microservices Composable architectures DevOps CI\/CD Experience establishing engineering standards, software quality practices and technical governance. Experience driving operational transformation from reactive support models to proactive, design-led reliability. Experience working with Product Management, Platform Engineering, Architecture, Quality Assurance and Operations teams. Strong stakeholder management skills across both business and technology leadership. Advanced understanding of business operations, organisational metrics and technology trends. Strong planning, prioritisation and resource management abilities. Excellent presentation and communication skills. Ability to lead teams effectively through organisational and technological change. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership & Delivery Excellence Lead and develop the Online Engineering capability across customer-facing and backend digital platforms. Establish engineering practices that promote quality, scalability, maintainability and rapid delivery. Drive delivery across Agile value-stream aligned teams. Balance customer outcomes, technical debt, operational sustainability and delivery priorities. Foster a \"build it, own it\" engineering culture. Technical Leadership & Capability Development Lead Front-End (Web, iOS and Android), Back-End and API engineering teams. Develop Engineering Leads and Technical Leads. Build engineering capability around composable commerce, cloud-native platforms and API-driven ecosystems. Reduce key-person dependencies through mentoring, succession planning and knowledge sharing. Quality, Security & Performance Embed quality, security, observability and performance into every stage of software delivery. Collaborate with Architecture, Platform, QA and Product teams to continuously improve engineering standards. Implement secure-by-design principles and ensure compliance with POPIA and enterprise technology standards. Drive improvements in code quality, test automation and platform performance. Product & Delivery Collaboration Partner closely with Product Managers, Product Owners and Delivery Leads. Ensure engineering execution aligns with enterprise architecture and strategic roadmaps. Manage delivery dependencies, risks and cross-team commitments. Support strategic initiatives including: Composable Commerce Payments Modernisation Order Services Digital Twin Omnichannel Enablement Operational Readiness & Reliability Ensure solutions are production-ready, secure and highly available. Improve operational resilience with Support and Operations teams. Participate in major incident reviews and drive engineering improvements. Lead technical debt reduction and platform modernisation initiatives. Governance, Risk & Compliance Identify and mitigate engineering-related risks. Ensure compliance with architecture standards, engineering governance and software delivery controls. Drive sound technical decision-making through effective governance frameworks. People Leadership Lead, coach and mentor a high-performing engineering team. Build a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
