An Information Technology Lead vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium's Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (RHI) in Hillbrow, Johannesburg - Gauteng.

POSITION INFO:

Background

The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is a renowned African-led research institute that seeks solutions to Africa’s health challenges.

It is located within the University of the Witwatersrand and addresses some of the greatest public health concerns affecting our region, including HIV and its related problems, sexual and reproductive health and vaccinology. This is done through pioneering, multi-disciplinary research; responsive technical support and innovation in health services; and evidence-based policy development and advocacy with national, regional and global stakeholders.

Main purpose of the job

  • Maintains organization''s effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting the implementation of information technology solutions

Key performance areas

  • Analysis of existing information service delivery across the organization
  • Conduct a needs analysis of IT needs, challenges and resources in the organization
  • Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organization outcomes; identifying problems; evaluating trends; anticipating requirements
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies
  • Conduct regular reviews of the strategy and implementation thereof
  • Directs technological research by studying organization goals, strategies, practices, and user projects
  • Completes projects by coordinating resources and timetables with user departments and data centres
  • Provide consultation and education at all levels on information systems so that decisions on the proper integration and implementation is achieved
  • Develop and implement policies and SOP’s
  • Implement backup systems and recovery plans
  • Produce accurate reporting systems and tools
  • Ensure standardization, protocol and governance around admin rights on PC’s throughout the organization and vendor management
  • Assets must be always accounted for and all IP addresses of every PC/Laptop known, recorded and managed, including an image of each device for restore purposes
  • Standardization implemented and potentially the remote management and deployment of desktop applications
  • Act as prime customer contact for all service-related inquiries and issues and ensure that the on-going service delivers
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
  • Establish and manage service levels for the organization
  • Consistently provide continual service improvements to ensure efficiency, relevance and cost control
  • Attend to all staffing requirements and administration
  • Supervise and manage the duties of subordinates to ensure optimal staff utilization and maintenance of sound labour relations
  • Perform and facilitate performance development and assessments
  • Identify substandard performance by team members and take necessary corrective action
  • Coach and train subordinates and team members to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills required by the organization
  • Promote harmony, teamwork and sharing of information

Required minimum education and training

  • Information Systems or equivalent

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • IT Degree or MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) or MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional), PM (Project Management) certification and ITIL Foundation
  • ITIL Certification Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems
  • Expertise in data center management and data governance
  • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation
  • Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines, self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a diverse/multidisciplinary team

Required minimum work experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the information management field, 2 years in a service management role
