We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Operations Engineer a 12-month fixed term contract for Pretoria.

 

Purpose of the role:

The Infrastructure Operations engineer will be responsible for the preparation and support of IT operations solutions and services with extensive knowledge of IT Infrastructure delivery and support, data center technologies including SAN storage and servers, networking including security, and virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V standalone and Failover Clustering and VMWAREâ?? all in accordance to industry and organizational best practices standards, service requirements and key performance indicators (KPIs) throughout the product life cycle.

 

Minimum educational level:                                                      

• Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
• Microsoft certifications such as MCSE and any associate level network, virtualization, or storage certifications

 

 

We require the following work experience:

• Expertise and extensive hands-on experience with installation, configuration and troubleshooting in Windows server and infrastructure services (e.g.: installing monitoring or security agents) in virtualized (VMware) and non-virtualized environments
• Detailed knowledge of, along with experience in, the implementation and maintenance of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Windows 2008 to Windows 2019 servers
• Managing server virtualization technologies (Microsoft Hyper-V standalone and Failover Clustering and VMWARE)
• Microsoft Exchange (2013 to Exchange Online) setup, administration, and configuration
• A solid understanding of Cloud infrastructure and configuring VPN connections to on Prem. Infrastructure backups
• Office365 and Microsoft Azure
• Good understanding of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP and common network protocols
• Scripting skills (eg: PowerShell) and experience working with provisioning/configuration automation and orchestration tooling for managing distributed server environments

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Planning, implementing, and maintaining system configuration
• Documenting technical specifications, configurations, and processes
• Fully understands, supports and upholds key departmental processes (e.g. Incident management, Change management, Asset management).
• Captures and analyses support requests from customers, colleagues, and monitoring tools to accurately define, categorise and prioritise support requests.
• Effective administration of incidents by identifying root cause analysis and problem resolution
• Providing related service feedback to the management team and leadership - report/repeat incidents/problem areas/proactive trends
• Conducts communication with customer and colleagues professionally and courteously throughout support request fulfilment to meet targets
• Implement and maintain business continuity plans for server infrastructure â?? Disaster Recovery Research, evaluate, install, and test new software updates â?? Patch and vulnerability management Travel to sites to perform installations and maintenance as required
• Administration of Windows on premise and Cloud technologies
• Management of Windows Active Directory
• Management of Exchange on-prem and Office365
• Management and patching of VMWare platforms
• Provide support and guidance on the overall Microsoft Office 365 suite
• SAN management
• Good understanding of Veritas NetBackup solutions
• Performs 3rd line technical support, performing analytical, problem solving, research and testing activities to resolve/fulfil requests at an expert level to meet resolution/workaround targets.
• Deploys and contributes to the design of hosted infrastructure (on Prem and Cloud), liaising with technical leads and through own continual improvement initiatives to maintain and continually improve efficiency, cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
• Maintain a secure environment. Take all reasonable measures to mitigate the potential risks involved in operating internet-connected equipment. Apply information security requirements.
• To collaborate effectively with other technical teams to exploit new technologies to enhance the applications and service infrastructure.
• To assist the Technology Operations team with service launches by providing timely adoption documentation, training, and assistance with problem resolution.
