SUMMARY:
Foundry Engineer - East Rand - Metallurgy
POSITION INFO:
The Foundry Engineer will develop, monitor and coordinate production standards and methods for the effective utilization of resources and meeting the customer requirements. The Foundry Engineer will oversee the development of new products and procedures for the reduction of product manufacturing cost, reduction of scrap, effective utilization of resources, product improvement, and the development and monitoring of efficiencies and standards to meet company goals.
Roles and Responsibilities
▪ Initiate sample procedures and follow samples through the manufacturing process, working with
team leaders and production staff to produce the sample with the least cost and highest quality.
▪ Coordinate, monitor, and ensure proper administrative controls are completed accurately by the
appropriate person on all samples.
▪ Initiate and complete production standards. Review through audits.
▪ Solidify modeling to ensure sound and defect free castings prior to sampling and create 3D shapes
in cad software package.
▪ Design and review pattern layouts, rigging systems, core design, etc. to produce castings that meet
or exceed customer specifications.
▪ Review casting Non-Destructive Testing results with NDT personnel to ensure proper interpretation
and resolution to results.
▪ Maintain knowledge and understanding of the developments and changes in foundry technology,
and also be responsible for trialing new product, process changes, etc;
▪ Participate and support all company audit program, internal or external including ISO system.
▪ Strictly follow company policies of environment and Occupational Health and Safety and assist to
achieve department and company goals of environment and Occupational Health and Safety.
▪ Be responsible for the training, guidance and supervision of new engineers.
Qualifications and experience
▪ A 4-year Engineering degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science, combined with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a foundry environment, is required.
▪ Experience with MAGMA solidification software. ▪ Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
