JOB SUMMARY:
An opportunity for a Knowledge Management Lawyer has become available in our Knowledge Management Department based in Johannesburg or Cape Town

This role is non-practicing and is an excellent opportunity for a passionate transactional lawyer who seeks to add value to the firm and practitioners.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The ideal candidate must have substantial practical experience in commercial transactions, contract drafting, drafting of opinions and conducting legal research. The candidate must be a self-starter, an analytical thinker and be able to take initiative. The role will require the candidate to draft and review template agreements, research points of law, stay abreast of legal developments, recognise when changes in law will impact on templates and draft appropriate amendments to templates. The candidate will be expected to work closely with other members of the knowledge management team as well as other practitioners within SA in order to understand the transactional needs of the practitioners and to develop and implement a knowledge strategy and projects to meet the needs of various practice areas.

Duties and responsibilities of this position

- Drafting template agreements and other templatised documents
- Drafting opinions
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge management database (i.e. the firms repository for the storage of templates, precedents and know-how across the firm)
- Keeping abreast of and analysing changes to applicable legislation and current market developments and communicating developments in law
- Recognising changes that need to be made to master templates and documents
- Working closely with the knowledge management team as well as other practitioners in the firm
- Devise and deliver appropriate internal training across all company offices on the use of the KM system and templates
- Development of essential knowledge resources which will improve the efficiency of the practitioners
