SUMMARY:
Legal Manager - Bedfordview

POSITION INFO:

Our client is looking for a suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Group Legal Manager. The successful incumbent will report directly to the Group Commercial, Legal & Risk Executive.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for assisting with assigned legal and commercial matters within the Group.

Acts as counsel on issues involving company compliance and regulatory standards; supports the successful resolution of material commercial negotiations, claims and disputes.

Reviews legal documentation and provides advice on appropriate action, and drafts the necessary documents and reports.

 Minimum Requirements

 

 Qualifications

  • LLB degree and registered attorney in South Africa.
  • A post-graduate qualification in a related field would be an advantage.

 Experience

 A minimum of 5 years related experience.

  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience as practicing attorney.
  • Experience as in-house legal counsel.
  • Experience in arbitration, adjudication and other forms of dispute resolution.
  • Experience in negotiation of commercial agreements.
  • Experience in a contacting business environment, such as construction or mining, would be an advantage.

Knowledge and Skills

Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations and concepts applicable to contract preparation, negotiation and administration

  • Sound knowledge of South African legislation and other relevant jurisdictions, including the Competition Act and the Companies Act
  • Ability to provide advice (orally and in writing) and influence decision making
  • Advanced ability to draft contracts and related documents and correspondence.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

 Key Responsibilities

Successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing legal and commercial advice with regard to the complex or bespoke project tender, contract, commercial and legal documents such as contracts and agreements – and drafts and revising relevant documents when necessary;
  • Assisting in ensuring that contractual opportunities, entitlements and obligations are being recognised and managed correctly;
  • Reviewing legal documents and ensure the company is compliant, protected and using best practice;
  • Identifing risks and ensuring that the necessary steps are taken to mitigate and/or resolve risk
  • Ensuring that commercial and contractual entitlements are dealt with promptly and in accordance with the conditions of contract
  • Drafting of policies in order to ensure that the necessary procedures and adherence to legislative guidelines are being maintained;
  • Maintaining legal register;
  • Providing guidance, assistance and consultation to management regarding legal compliance and acting within the ambit of the law;
  • Remaining up to date on all construction legislation and any new legislation in the industry.
  • Ensuring compliance to group policies & procedures.
  • Assisting with any other ad hoc legal assistance.
