SUMMARY:
A Legal and Policy Researcher (1-year contract) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium, in Parktown, Johannesburg - Gauteng.

POSITION INFO:

Background

Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC“) is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.

Main purpose of the job

  • To undertake and support health policy and legal research on diet-related NCD Prevention 

Location

  • School of Public Health, Parktown, Johannesburg 

Key performance areas

  • To provide research support for Priceless projects
  • Experience with planning and working on grants
  • Identify funding opportunities
  • Assist with grant and report writing
  • Conduct literature reviews, background research, weekly news and publications round up on developments related to NIH
  • Participate in internal and external networks, workshops and collaborative partnerships, representing PRICELESS
  • Provide other research office support to the project leads

Required minimum education and training

  • LLB and Masters Degree in Law

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities

  • Experience in legal research, public health law, or related field is desirable but not required
  • Track record in research and publications will be advantageous
  • Demonstrated interest in public health and NCD research will be highly advantageous

Required minimum work experience

  • 2 years of work experience (not sector-specific)
