This position involves working on an exciting project aimed at increasing accessibility of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for young people. The main purpose of the position is to develop materials and experiences to generate demand for the uptake, use of and adherence to PrEP in adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), their sexual partners and young men who have sex with men (MSM) in the Klipfontein-Mitchells Plain district, and to monitor and evaluate strategies implemented to determine effectiveness. The role may in addition involve developing materials and experiences to increase health provider willingness to offer and promote PrEP to the target populations.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 with Honours (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Marketing/Journalism/Communications)
• At least 5 years demonstrated experience in communication strategy development and execution
• At least 2-3 years fully versed in the use of and best practices of main social media channels including Facebook, TikTok and Instagram
• At least 2 years possess exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content preferably in visual format for the adolescent market (proof of previous campaign work would be required)
• Fluency in English, Afrikaans and/or Xhosa
• Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team
• Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
• High level of communications, public relations and marketing ability and experience
• Ability to think strategically and identify ways to drive uptake in products and services within under-served communities
• Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given minimal direction

Advantageous:

• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator is an asset
• Graphic design background/experience
• Videography skills/experience
• Ability to be creative and flexible to adjust communication based on analytics

Responsibilities:

• Develop, write and edit marketing and communications materials, including press releases, blog posts and social media content
• Promote communications and marketing materials through appropriate social channels
• Track analytics and create reports detailing successes and failures of communications campaigns
• Ensure that all communications and marketing material aligns with brand standards
• Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos
• Work with communications team members to conceptualize and implement communications strategies and campaigns
