A growing diagnostic pathology laboratory is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to join their team at 16 Payn Street, Pietermaritzburg, KZN . The ideal candidate will be registered as an Independent Medical Technologist with the HPCSA , have strong technical and analytical skills, experience with relevant laboratory equipment, and be able to sign off pathology results while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and patient care. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science Current HPCSA registration as an Independent Medical Technologist Minimum of 3 years’ post-registration laboratory experience preferred Ability to sign off pathology results Experience with the laboratory equipment Experience in an ISO 15189 accredited diagnostic laboratory advantageous Sound knowledge of laboratory quality management systems Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills High ethical standards and strict regard for patient confidentiality Computer literacy and experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Perform diagnostic laboratory testing according to established SOPs Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation Validate, verify, and sign off pathology results prior to release Perform quality control and participate in quality assurance programmes Investigate and resolve technical or quality-related issues Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation Ensure compliance with HPCSA, ISO 15189 and relevant laboratory requirements Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives Assist with training and mentoring junior laboratory personnel where appropriate Collaborate effectively with pathologists, clinicians, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The successful candidate will be: Detail-oriented and highly accurate Committed to scientific integrity and quality Able to work independently and as part of a team Comfortable working in a fast-paced diagnostic environment Experienced and confident in working with relevant laboratory equipment Committed to ongoing professional development Passionate about delivering quality laboratory services that contribute to patient care SALARY: R20,000 – R30,000 per month , depending on experience and qualifications.
