Job purpose:
To co-ordinate and manage all maintenance activities to ensure safe and smooth servicing of customer’s needs in line with agreed objectives and time-lines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement and manage a preventive and predictive maintenance (PM & PdM) strategy for all equipment.
Management of preventative maintenance system to ensure maximum machine uptime
Manage and control opex and capex budget within limits, including managing purchases of anything needed. Budget covers repairs and maintenance, production consumables, repairs and maintenance of vehicles (forklifts) and capex for machinery, refurbishments and facilities
Maintain a critical spare parts inventory to reduce machine/equipment downtime
Ensure a philosophy of safety first (anzen) is built into all maintenance activities.
Ensure the availability and efficient running of machines (robotic welding machines, hydraulic & mechanical presses, compressors, chillers, DG sets, HVAC systems) and other utility equipment to ensure minimise or unplanned downtime.
Analyse daily downtimes and discuss workplan and recurring issues to be rectified from the previous shift.
Implement measures to prevent downtimes / breakdowns / delays, analyse root causes and implement counter-measures to ensure problems do not recur.
Drive Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Lean Maintenance practices.
Liaise with Quality to fix machine defects and to implement counter-measures to prevent quality-related defects.
Liaise with Production and Production Control (Logistics) to plan major maintenance jobs to be done within the next weeks, including weekend work. This includes getting items refurbished to be installed on production lines, ensuring the availability of parts, machinery and machinery spares, ensuring jobs are completed to specification and once completed, ensuring machines are ready to go back into production.
Participate in safety walks and ensure adherence to all safety, risk, regulatory, legal and industry requirements. (lifting equipment, pressure vessels, boilers, and hazardous area safety. )
Drive adherence to scheduled legal and compliance training for the department, including statutory inspections for machinery and ensuring compliance to OHSA.
Ensure contractors safety files are submitted and up-to-date and that anyone who comes on site has been safety-inducted. Ensure the right work permits have been issued.
Work with Quality to manage quality audits against the ISO standard.
Manage contractors to ensure work is done correctly before sign-off.
Apply kaizen mindset to identify opportunities to improve systems and processes.
TECHNICAL PRE-REQUISITE
Knowledge of the automotive / manufacturing industry
Good level of technical competence on automated machines (PLCs, drives, presses and similar)
Intermediate PLC programming skills is essential, preferably with exposure to SQL and database systems
Basic business and financial acumen with exposure to budgeting
People management and understanding
Safety first, LEAN and process mindset
Sound systems knowledge, including sound knowledge of the full MS Office suite
Knowledge of spot and arc (assembly) Welding
knowledge of press and weld automotive robotics
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
Mechanical / electrical degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
Mechanical Engineering degree
EXPERIENCE
8 - 10 years’ general maintenance experience in an automotive environment including 5 years in a supervisory / management role
Press, weld experience would be an advantage
