Manager Environmental Engineering

SUMMARY:
Client in the MINING INDUSTRY requires the services of a Manager Environmental Engineering at their plant in the West Rand Area as soon as possible PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT ALL CV''S SHOULD BE IN WORD FORMAT TOGETHER WITH ID, QUALIFICATION AND DRIVER''S LICENSE

POSITION INFO:

• Be in possession of NQF 7 equivalent (Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma) in Ventilation and/or Occupational Hygiene.
• Have a valid Chamber of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
• Have at least 7 years’ experience in Ventilation, Occupational Hygiene and Radiation Protection, of which 5 years should have been at Operational Env. Engineering/ Occ. Hygiene management level.
• Be registered with the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa and/or SAIOH.
• Be proficient in the utilisation and application of applicable design, modelling and simulation software.
• Have previous exposure to major capital projects related to prefeasibility and feasibility studies and analysis.
• Have working knowledge of large and medium mines, including shallow, medium and deep operations.
• Have working knowledge of conventional as well as mechanised mining methods and techniques.
• Have in-depth knowledge and experience of strategic technical ventilation and refrigeration designs (only gained in some platinum mines and in gold mining).
• Have in-depth knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, requirements and best practices.
• Have the ability to formulate policies and procedures related to ventilation / occupational hygiene systems and designs.
• Have knowledge and skills in development, implementation and evaluation of management systems and database formulation.
• Have working knowledge of specialist ventilation and refrigeration computer simulation programs.
• Have sound understanding and knowledge of the Occupational Hygiene and Radiation Protection Technologies and regulations.
• Have computer skills (MS Office).
• Have a valid driver’s license (if applicable).
• Have a clear security screening record.
• Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk based medical examination at the relevant Occupational Health Centre

• Experience in Project Management and Planning

• Manage environmental and occupational hygiene disciplines across the segment.
• Establish sound engineering governance and principles.
• Establish and control Environmental Engineering (Ventilation) Hygiene resources (e.g. instruments, equipment, systems, and staff.
• Perform internal and external audits.
• Oversee the operational status of the disciplines.
• Implement new technology, systems and practices within the context of the Gold operational segment.
• Maintaining technical excellence across the PGM segment discipline specific.
• Implementation and evaluation of statutory COP''s, SOP’s, and Managerial instructions regarding Ventilation Engineering and Occupational Hygiene.
• Technical interpretation recommendation and reporting to the owner of the mine and relevant statutory organisations on Ventilation Engineering and Occupational Hygiene aspects.
• Implement and evaluate monitoring programs and data management systems.
• Design optimal ventilation systems that support a zero-harm sustained production approach.
• Optimise ventilation systems using computer simulation models).
• Ensure that the ventilation / refrigeration models integrate into the current ventilation systems within the discipline.
• Liaise with engineering team to optimise ventilation systems and improve reliability).
• Develop strategies that would incorporate best practices into designs.
• Conduct technical interpretations of new legislation, guidelines and directives in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Manage the integration of Occupational Hygiene standards.
• Incorporate relevant best practise standards.
• Ensure that the department complies with new legislation, guidelines and directives.
• Allocate the relevant resources to assist in executing of the relevant duties.
• Assist in benchmarking standards against best in industry and influence the appropriate changes.
• Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment such as the BeQ.
• Align to international responsible mining principles.

• SA PMG Operation: Enhance Together for Sustainability (ETFS) initiative.
• Focus on safety and health as well as operational excellence.
