JOB DESCRIPTION:

Mechanical Engineer

Our client is a top end supplier of specialised engineering services to the mining and steel mill industries and has experienced significant growth and development of their business over the past 20+ years.

Specifically, they offer engineering design, manufacturing and repair services associated with large scale plant and machined components typically used in the mining and steel mill industries and which has earned them a reputation for excellence among both local and many international clients.

They currently have an opportunity for a highly practical Mechanical Engineer (BTech/BSc) with solid hands-on experience in overseeing and effecting both maintenance and repair work as well as coming up with design amendments for improved performance of, in particular, gear transmissions and grinding mills associated with large plant and equipment.

The company boasts the employment of several technically skilled and qualified personnel who have an intrinsic feel for machinery, which enables them to respond efficiently to the specific needs and expectations their customers. They are certified to the ISO 9001:2015 quality management standard and are an associate member of the American Gear Manufacturers Association.

The position calls for someone whose background and skills include:

A formal Mechanical Engineering Degree
A passion for mechanical plant and machinery
An ability to move effortlessly between project management, hands on repair work and technical design tasks using AutoCAD or similar computer-based design software.
8-10 years heavy plant maintenance and design experience typically associated with mining and steel mill operations
Good attention to detail.
Calm, relaxed, focused demeanour.
Ability to perform under pressure and meet changing deadlines.
Ability to work well in a team.

The position is based at the company’s engineering workshops in Germiston but will involve occasional travel to effect and oversee installation and repair projects carried out at customer sites around the country.
