Signa Opportunity
is recruiting unemployed youth for quality workplace experience through the Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative.

About the YES Initiative
The initiative was launched by the President in 2018 and is a partnership with the government and labour department to collectively devise a national plan to build economic pathways for South Africa’s youth by creating workplace opportunities for South African youth over a period of 12 months.

Position: Mechanical/ Technical Engineering Intern

Stipend: R8000

Location: Gauteng (Wynberg)

POSITION INFO:
About the role
Develop practical engineering, manufacturing, and technical sales skills within a workshop environment. Support design, fabrication, and commercial activities.

Responsibilities:

Assist with HVAC and fabrication drawings.
Operate and learn plasma cutting machines.
Execute job cards and support production.
Assist with quotations and pricing.
Attend meetings with consultant engineers.
Support procurement and supplier coordination.

Training & Development

Month 1: Orientation, HVAC basics, workshop exposure.
Month 2: Practical application and coordination.
Week 3 onwards: Pricing and quotation training.
Months 3–6: Advanced skills and independent tasks.

Software & Tools

AutoCAD, Revit, CAMduct.
Plasma cutting systems (Starcam/Fastcam).
Microsoft Excel and MS Project.

Technical aptitude.
Attention to detail.
Communication skills.
Teamwork and adaptability.

Working Conditions

Workshop-based environment.
Site visits required.
PPE required.

Minimum Requirements

South African Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34.
Must not have participated on the YES programme before.
Matric.
Business Management qualification (advantage).
MS Office proficiency.
Strong organisational skills.
