SUMMARY:
Seeking a Mine Planner, based in Cape Town.
POSITION INFO:
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent qualification recognized by SANQA or international equivalent).
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mining, with at least 5 years in open-pit/opencast long-term and strategic planning (kimberlite experience advantageous).
- Proficiency in mine planning software, such as Datamine, Whittle, Surpac, Maptek, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of open pit mining practices, geotechnical principles, load and haul systems, and drill & blast techniques.
- Experience in mine budgeting, cost forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Proven ability to update and create resource and reserve models for planning and geological integration.
- Analytical with excellent attention.
- Accountable for coordinating and integrating the overall mine planning process to ensure that all long-term and strategic plans are optimized, realistic, and precise.
- The role involves producing, maintaining, and optimizing mine designs and schedules, ensuring alignment with the corporate strategy, production targets, and operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain long-term and strategic mine plans in line with company objectives.
- Produce medium-term planning and mine scheduling, aligned with operational targets.
- Conduct mine design, pit optimization, and scheduling using industry-standard software.
- Review and interpret geological and resource models to create accurate and realistic plans.
- Advise mine management on fleet requirements, equipment utilization, and consumables planning.
- Mentor and train Junior Planners and review short-term plans.
- Present mine plans, schedules, and strategic recommendations to management and external stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards while integrating geotechnical, MRM, and economic considerations into planning.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to align mine plans with production and financial goals.
