SUMMARY:
Sales professional required for mining and petrochemical industry consultative CAPEX and ancillary sales role covering the African market, based in Johannesburg (extensive travel) with established client base.

POSITION INFO:

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consultative sales of CAPEX and ancillary mining equipment and other products, consumables and services to existing clients and development of new business continent-wide (currently dealing with ±8 countries)
  • Compile quotations to meet client specifications, including for mainly underground and some open cast mining operations
  • Oversee commissioning of equipment and servicing
  • Key Account Management and development of relationships with strategic decision makers and industry stakeholders, including government departments and mining operations, knowledge of different country regulations and contacts as well as engineering consulting firms
  • Sourcing new business in other industries, including Petrochemical and Agriculture, for newly developed technology
  • Set yearly business plan and strategy along with the GM, including potential growth, targets, budgets and action plan for achieving this (currently ±R60 million)
  • Quotations, proposals, presentations and tenders
  • Negotiations, T''s & C''s, payment terms, freight/logistics terms
  • Presentations and technical discussions with clients
  • Liaison with mine management, engineers, procurement and SHEQ management
  • Visit sites to develop targeted plans with clients, travel 2 weeks of the month to remote places with average to limited amenities and conduct underground assessments (previous experience and medical certification required)
  • Look after vital third party supplier networks, assist with site visits, quotes and training requirements
  • Attend trade related expos, trade shows, conferences and other marketing events
  • Dealings with Government Departments, Mining Associations, Consulting Firms and Mine Rescue
  • Monthly reports and presentations to senior management on sales figures, forecasts
  • Advisory to internal project management teams related to production requirements and project fulfilment
  • SAP CRM

Desired Experience & Qualification

* Tertiary qualification: Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Business qualification

* Proven sales track record in similar African sales/BDM role with references and personal connections

* Mainly flight travel, however, company vehicle if available or own vehicle suitable for cross-border mining site extensive travel (SUV/Bakkie) with travel reimbursement

* Work autonomously

* MS Office

* Willing to travel extensively in Africa, at least 2 weeks of the month

* Previous business development experience in mining and related industries with a strong network to draw on in the African continent

* Able to visit underground mining operations and conduct underground assessments (medically fit and previously done)

* Knowledge of ventilation, drilling, structural support, heavy mining machinery and mine engineering

* Affiliation to a Mining related association an advantage
