SUMMARY:
A specialist mining consultancy is looking for a Managing Consultant: Mining Optimisation for a site-based FIFO 3 Month contract in Zambia’s Copperbelt. This is a hands-on technical consulting role in an underground copper mining environment, focused on diagnosing production constraints, improving mining cycle performance, and helping site teams embed sustainable operational improvements.

The engagement runs for approximately 3 months \/ 75 mandays , delivered in two- to three-week site rotations . It offers exposure to a complex brownfield operation, senior client stakeholders, and practical optimisation work where the results need to show underground - not just in a slide deck. Duties \/ Key Responsibilities Lead technical diagnostics across the underground production value chain. Analyse mining methods, cycle design, drill-and-blast performance, cleaning\/tramming, hoisting\/logistics, and equipment availability\/utilisation. Design and implement practical production optimisation interventions. Engage with production crews, supervisors and senior mine leadership. Coach line management to sustain improvements. Produce clear workstream reports and maintain strong project governance. Model visible safety leadership and comply with site and statutory requirements. Requirements 15+ years' underground mining production experience , including senior line management exposure. Background as a Mine Manager, Section Manager or Production Manager preferred. Statutory 3.1 or 2.6.1 appointment under South African MHSA, or Zambian Mining Regulations equivalent. 5+ years' optimisation consulting experience in mining or heavy industry. Underground copper\/base metals and Zambian Copperbelt experience advantageous. Experience with operational excellence methods, short-interval control or management operating systems helpful. Education Relevant mining engineering or equivalent technical qualification. Soft Skills Strong operational credibility, analytical thinking, senior-level influencing, coaching ability, resilience in remote deployments, and clear written communication. Remuneration & Contract Terms Independent contractor engagement for 75 mandays . Project-related expenses are covered, including flights, accommodation, in-country transport, visas\/work permits, and required medical\/vaccination costs. The contractor is responsible for their own tax, statutory and insurance obligations. Valid passport, underground medical fitness, yellow fever certificate and ability to secure required clearances are essential.
